Oh, I have two or three myself, left over from my "bullseye" days. And yes, they sorta made the trigger pull SEEM a little lighter. They just look wrong, so I have removed them. Fortunately, I didn't crank down on the setscrews and mark the triggers.

;)

Check these Colts at a recent auction. Several more here too.

Pretty hard for us to consider the Colt fans "cult-like" when we have compatriots who pay many hundreds (or more) for a cardboard Ruger box.

All in the eye . . .

JMHO
:)

Y'all can leave all the Colt revolvers to 'ole Cholo :D The buggered up Python in the OP at $3k now? Someone somewhere just has to need a 3 digit Python. That afterbirth of what was once a fine revolver defies logic. I don't even like my old Ruger's to have the screws turned since assembled at the factory. To each his own...

$3,325 and counting with the 15 minute rule. This oughta be good

Edit: Damn, someone stole it for the above price...

Man I always thought my buddy Roger was crazy when in the late 70's he bought all those Diamondbacks for almost 200 dollars NIB.....looks like I might be the crazy one.....RR.

Wish I would have kept all the Colts I have had over the years, I could retire.

It looks like the hammer and trigger are "jewelled" If so - yuck!! Also Pythons have a sweet wide trigger to begin with - no shoe needed. Just passed tonight on a nice nickel 98% 8" here for $1450. Can't support my Colt WW1 Govt habit , my Ruger illness and also the Pythons. Have had many early snakes but eventually they move on.....

I love colts but for several thousand dollars ,that colt better be atleast
100 years old,i believe that python went for over 8 grand!

A fool and their money....

I sold my 90% 1916 Colt Govt with JP Morgan provenance/lettered recently for $3250 and I think that was about top end. It is still featured on Coltautos dot com

Beautiful gun and a great website.

Hawkeye

I too collect certain model colt snake revolvers and 1911's, I think you are correct, the market has been insane lately.

I TRY TO STAY IN TOUCH WITH THE MARKETPLACE AND HAVE PURSUED SOME PYTHONS, DIAMONDBACKS AND VARIOUS 1911 AND THEIR COUSINS. I HAVE PASSED ON QUITE A FEW COLTS TO MY COUSIN AND HE HAS A MARVELOUS COLLECTION. I HAVE FOND MEMORIES AND RUGERS............ 8)

In addition to the jeweled hammer and trigger, that Python doesn't even have the correct grips on it. The first pythons had grips that were nearly completely checkered with a light oil or varnish finish on them.

AkRay

You are correct.

The first type is fully checkered top to bottom from the 50' til 1961 if memory serves.

The second type checkering ending in a straight line along the top edge and below the medallions, the checkering pattern goes up to the medallion with a semi circle. 1961-1975 ish

Third is the current style that on the gun.

Oh and let me not forget, I see this all the time Pristine Pythons with fake grips. The most prevalent is the last style with a gold ferrel. Python grips screws are always blued!
