Do you believe in someone passed floating around among us?

Family has a cabin in northern Wi. Grandparents planned to retire there as did my parents. Did not happen for various reasons. Grandparents have both passed on Dad passed last year about this time.

Years ago after my Grandmother passed we had a weird incident at the cabin. She was very religious polish catholic. In the front yard we have a balsam tree. Over the years we trimmed branches off. Grandma would put small religious emblems or statues in the sap of the trunk were the branches had been cutoff. The year following her death. All the items were gone. They were all lined up on her dresser. Over the years we make a point of always noting the position of the items before we leave. More than once they have been rearranged. Bit spooky but screw it have another beer is the usual reaction.

Speaking of beer. Grandpa drank Pabst. He's not been in the place for 30 years. Still have the occasional Pabst bottle cap appear on the kitchen table.

I was up in spring turkey hunting. I was woken up twice in one night to crystal clear sound of a music box playing. I was deadass sober.

Now today I got chills. Talked to my brother how was up last weekend. It was him his wife and my 18 month old nephew.

One night after dinner nephew is in the living room area. They hear him giggling then he starts saying "Hi" he don't talk much at all. Sister inlaw goes in the room. He is staring at a recliner laughing and pointing and saying "Hi" over and over. For some reason sister in law started asking him who he sees. Asks him if he sees Papa. He gets all excited and starts pointing at the chair and laughing and again saying "Hi". Now he was six months old when my Dad passed and that was the only person that was called Papa around him ever. He never seen my dad at the cabin or in that chair.

Made the hair on the back of my neck stand up hearing this.

Lots of 'stuff' we don't understand going on in the world(s) around us. I discover lots of 'misplaced' items. Things I laid down only a short time before aren't where I left them-I blame that on old age but it has been happening for decades. Other more private things I'd never repeat in public happen now and then.
A word of warning: If you're one of those who have these incidents, DO NOT scoff at those tiny warnings that we sometimes get. That prickly sensation or the hint of a long lost hand on the shoulder is not to be ignored.

past humans?
no.
period.

but, is there a spirit world out there set on deceiving and tormenting you on earth?
yes; and, there are angelic beings ordered to protect you.
so there are a lot of things floating around in a spirit world.

let me quote you from the book.....

'if you believe in G-d, you do well.
the (demons-spirits floating around) also believe, and they tremble.'
james 2-19

hope it helps.

Spirits, ghosts, demons, gods, heaven, hell....I don't believe in any of it.
Figments of mankind's fertile imagination.
You live....then you die. Period, lights out, game over....enjoy it while you can.

I have niece that would tell my sister stories about the 2 little boys that lived in the basement of her house.
When she was out in their back yard she also would say that she didn’t like that man up on the roof. My sister would look back and of course no one was there, but my niece said he keeps trying to get her to go with him.

Spent the summer many years ago helping work on a big old colonial house that was going to be part of a private school .. a friend of the owner had done a pencil drawing of the house and framed it and sent it as a present to the guy and he hung it on the wall at the bottom of the stairs. In my opinion is was not a very good drawing.... Every morning the picture had fallen off the wall and was laying on the floor. One night we were in the dinning room just off the hall way with the stairs and the story of the lady who had years before lived and died in the house and was 'known' to do strange things still was discussed... someone said something funny about it and everyone at the table started laughing.... the dern picture flew off the wall and across the hall way and the glass shattered and the frame broke. Needless to say, the picture did not go back up and I for one firmly believe there are things in this world we just don't have the capacity to explain.

There is no such thing as spirits of the dead floating around, when you are dead you are dead. You will rise from the dead on Judgment Day and you will be judged according to your deeds, both good and bad.
However, there are demons in the spirit world that will tempt you and torment you if you do not follow them. They know that belief and the attempt to communicate with the dead is an abomination to God.
Satan is the Great Deceiver, the Master of illusions, and the Father of Lies. He cannot create anything and the only power he has is the power you allow him to have. He knows he will loose in the end and wants to take as many souls with him as possible. There are also angels in the spirit world and there is a constant battle between good and evil. You do have free will and can do good or do evil and you are also a part of this battle.

SURE... why not....

Really have no idea but it IS a fun subject.

We believe our grandparents are watching over us. Not all the time, but they do check in occasionally. Too many strange coincidences to not believe in such things.

In Bulgaria, if you spill a glass of wine it's because your grandpa or uncle or whomever wanted a drink. So there is a whole country of people believing in spirits of dead relatives etc.

Sometimes I think I have ESP, like when I turned on the TV yesterday and saw a replay of the Bucks vs Cowboys game and caught the last 4 minutes that I had missed when I fell asleep the night before. BTW the Bucks with Brady won with a field goal in the last 7 seconds of the game. I was really pulling for the Cowboys.

Spirits/ghosts.... No, I don't think so, but our conscious and subconscious mind can play tricks on us. Just think about dreams.

I’ve never experienced any sort of paranormal event with one type if exception. Several times I’ve had my body go on full alert without any obvious sign of danger. It’s always taken the “hairs on the back of the standing up” route. Of course there are other signs that come along with that. Such as the “someone walking on your grave shiver”.

Now science explains this by saying you likely sensed something unconsciously. I had a much loved teacher that explained it this way. Two early humans are bent over drinking at a spring. One senses something and is fully alert. The sabertoothed tiger leaps. The one alerted escapes. The other becomes a meal for the cat. The one that escapes gets to breed. In other words, it’s part of natural selection.

It was my uncle that taught me to pay attention to such things. On a significant number of those occasions it was wise to do so.

But, what if you a wrong? The consequences could be grave depending on which lessons you were taught. The main problem is you have to die to find out. I choose to believe. Think about that for a while.

My dads house was built in 1920, he bought it in '68, there has always been strange happenings there, we had the typical large family parties for the holidays where everyone from out of town spends the night where ever they could to return home the next day.
Anyone who spent the night at my dads house would have something happen to them, nothing serious, just enough to scare them good, to the point that after a few years no one would spend the night anymore, a lot of them were intelligent professionals and not superstitious but would be certain about whatever it was that scared them, my mom still lives there with a couple of brothers, relatives will visit but refuse to spend the night to this day.

Just wanted to add that growing up there I never saw or heard anything, my folks and siblings have experienced both but were never scared by whatever it was and just accept that weird things happen and live with it.

The only ghost story I believe is real was told to me by my Mother.
She said that my Great Grand father (her grand father) lived near them in Missouri; One morning at about 3:00 AM her bedroom door opened and her Grandfather entered the room and sat down on the foot of her bed;
It woke her up, but she said he didn't speak, just sat there for a few minutes, then smiled at her and got up and left. She got up later that morning to discover he had passed away shortly before that time.
She was his favorite Grand Daughter

A guy at works father drove down from here near Pittsburgh to visit his mother about 8 hours away. Sitting at the kitchen table catching up with each other when his Dad suddenly gets up and say, “I’ll see you. I going home”. His mother asks “You saw him, didn’t you?” His dad answers yes. To this day his dad swears he saw a Confederate soldier walk down the hall behind her.

My dad worked for a local restaurant chain back in the 40s. A lot of the women then didn’t drive so he would ferry them to and from work. He got to be good friends with one older woman. One night over coffee she told my dad she had a secret but he had to swear not to tell anyone. She had a nephew in the Army Air Corp. that she was close to and late one night he showed up at her door. Surprised to see him she asked what he was doing there. He said he was leaving and wanted to tell her goodbye. She found out later his plane crashed that night and he was killed.

Just 2 stories I’ve heard to the best of my recollection. I can’t vouch for the veracity of either.

Not quite a Ghost Story but.
One night in 1944 my Grandmother woke up hysterical and crying.
My Grandfather wanted to know what was going on with her.
She told him that something bad had happened to my Dad.
That was the same time that he was shot down while on a bombing mission over Rumania. Luckily Dad and the crew were able to bail out and were saved by the Partisans.
Strange things do happen

I called an old friend just before Christmas to wish him a Merry Christmas. He said he wasn’t doing well and was pretty much bed bound and failing. He said he was glad to hear from me and wished me a Merry Christmas too.

The following spring I found out he had died before Thanksgiving!

Some folks are just 'more tuned in' to these things than others. I would never intentionally visit one of the 'haunted' locations--not because I'm afraid but because that is simply asking for contact that you may not like when it happens.
Some people are more likely to 'feel energy in the air' so to speak. This is more prominent in animals which is why pets may pick up on an unseen presence that humans miss.
Call it what you want or discount it if you wish but there are 'things' going on that most humans just don't notice and many who do hesitate to relate those occurrences in fear of being considered loony.

Have often, over the decades(I am aged), pondered abt having individual thoughts of friend(s), loved ones, acquaintences, who "show up" in my thoughts spontaneously. Many times after the fact, it is announced that they have passed on at abt the same time the thought of them has occurred in my mind. Is this a form of saying "Goodbye?" I think it is...........Second, suggest that young children see images of the human form in a different, perhaps pure form, when they wave at or chatter with a relative who has passed, and us as adults cannot see. This has happened with some of my grand children.........Splitz

I’ve lived in 2 “haunted” houses. One a Cape Cod where I was the 2nd owner and the builder had passed away. The 2nd a school that was converted to 4 apartments. Multiple family & neighbors heard “the noises” in both places, or saw objects fly off the shelf in the “school”.

In the schoolhouse the sound of children laughing was occasionally heard and they liked to play pranks. The 2 young women in the apt next door were spooked and moved out pronto. I thought they were playful and meant no harm. The day I moved in I turned the key and the door flew wide open of its own volition. Only happened once.

This tells me an "essence" of folks not here remains on occasion.

I personally had this happen. I had an elderly buddy that got me into reloading and casting. As happens I met my then future wife got married a we lost touch with each other. A some years later one evening he popped into my mind and I gave him a call. No answer. After some detective work I found out he had moved to Illinois with his wife and her daughter and family. I didn’t know the daughters married name. Case closed.
The next week my Dad called to tell my friend Bob had died the night I called Bob. It was posted in the local paper as Bob had some ties here.

Hi,

Years ago, a late friend lived in a house on the road from the Gettysburg battlefield to the Eisenhower farm. As had so many houses in the vicinity, hers had been used as a field hospital. I asked if that ever gave her any creepy feelings.

No, but she suggested if I ever got to meet her girlfriend who worked at Gettysburg College, I could hear some stories. I did get the chance to meet the girlfriend. I'd seen documentaries on various haunted places, and the college pops up on many of them. At one time, each year the students did a "night in the woods" project where they took all their sophisticated ghost hunter equipment out to see what they could see.

Interviews with the students year after year yielded a recurring answer: "No, we didn't find anything, but there IS something going on out there."

Back to the girlfriend, she explained the part of the college everybody thinks is haunted is now the admin building where she worked, and it houses tons of records in its basement archives. She told me there were people who'd worked in that building 30 years or better who would NOT go downstairs after dark!

I'm not sure I believe, but won't put my foot down and say I don't, either!

Two weeks after my Dad died I was at home just waking up. I heard his voice. He was very happy and excited. He kept saying "You gotta call Amy (my sister)!" The next day I called my sister. Before I could say anything she blurted out "Never guess who I bumped into! One of Dad's old buddies! We talked forever. It was great!"

Absolutely yes. More than a few times in my nuclear and extended blood family (maternal side) over the last 6 decades, events post-death of family member have occurred that to us, defy explanation. We've come to accept these events as expressions of comfort from loved ones past toward us still on this side. Expressions that there's still a viable connection to them. We find these expressions reassuring. Comforting.
After three months, my beloved father in February 1978 "came to" if you will, my beloved mother. He stated that he could no longer stay, but had to go elsewhere to live. Asking if she could accompany him, he replied that "No it's not your time yet. But when it is I'll come for you". That occured over 30 years later in 2008.
Anyway. We've experienced things moving in front of witnesses, our dogs interacting with unseen things one could suppose to be a person, clear crisp sounds of footsteps head by more than one person in our home and even pipe smoke layers in a non-smoking living room next to my father's chair.
Personally these events have become non-startling. I myself am the "last man standing" in my nuclear family of origin. I suspect there are more in store for me.
Don.

When I was in school, a good friend of mine invited me to stay over night with him. That night in conversation he told me his present father was his step-dad and was his uncle and a twin brother to his father. I ask about his father and he told me his father had been killed in action during WWII. Then he said he woke up one night and his father was there. His father stayed a short while then said he had to go and told him goodby. A few days later his mother was notified his father had been killed on the date he was visited by his father.

I have been at the bedside of many dying people. Speaking “incoherently?” to people that family tell us have died long ago. I had an American Native who couldn’t sleep because the Elders were congregating in his room to take him “home”, and he wanted to stay till he saw his daughter one last time.

The sharing of experiences here reaffirm my understanding of and belief in the system I was raised with. I for one appreciate the comforting affirmations. The only thing I could hope more for is reuniting with my canine companions. Gonna be real disappointed in the system if they aren't there when I arrive...Don.
