You never know what drives folks to bid things up... Sometimes they're completing a collection or are looking for a specific serial number. It's a very nice 4 digit piece but (I think) a tad overpriced as a 'just wanna have one' piece. If there was an original box & papers it would be more realistic.

Looks like the S&W disease is carrying over to the old Rugers 
If someone needs it for a collection, than it must be worth it to them.
I myself only collect Rugers that I shoot, and super rare or NIB stuff isn't on my radar but is desirable to many people.
I remember when I first got Ruger-itis about 5 years ago, the DA Six series were still looked down on by S&W guys as "K-frame .357 copies" and now the 2 3/4" barrel Speed Sixes aren't far behind the 3" S&W 65's and 13's, andespecially the 9mm models can be seen going for over $1,000.
A few years back people on the S&W forum where like "Since when is a NIB 586-1 worth $800????"
If someone needs it for a collection, than it must be worth it to them.

What is the last character in the ser. no.? Looks a bit odd to me. Can't quite make it out.

If it's conseutive to one he already has.....

It has a non-Inc. stamped barrel. Only about 1300 made. I bet someone has been looking for one of those for a long time!!! :lol:
