For Trade Old Model Single Six 22/22mag

I don't know what these old models are worth or which ones are collectible. This was made in 1959, has a steel ejector rod housing, and an Aluminum grip frame. There is no transfer bar. I'd like to trade this for an sp101 in 22lr or maybe an LCR in 22 or.....anything interesting???? Description/Story below:

I recently came across this three screw single six. The serial numbers indicate that it was made in 1959 as per Ruger's website. It shot a little too high. With the front sight being too short, my only option was to remove it and make a taller one. So I did. While I was at it, I steel wooled the whole gun and cold blued it. I also got some Brazillian Cherry blocks and made some better looking grips. Brazillian Cherry is very hard and I will never work with it again! I give the new grips a B+ on fit. I could have done better with Walnut, but didn't have any.

Now I am getting ready to start shooting/filing the sight down to a better profile and to my preferred POA/POI...and it occured to me that I don't want to keep it anyway. So I haven't touched it. I made it considerably taller than the original to be sure that I didn't have to cut out another one. I intended to silver solder the new one on but used JB Weld as a temporary solution...but did not realize that it would hold so good. It is there like it was soldered on...so take that as you wish. The sight looks like a shark fin now, but will most likely need 3/16" filed off...then it will have a more traditional look. I never shot a 22mag thru it.

It has a nice balance, but I am more of double action guy. I will consider selling but don't know how much to ask. I'd rather trade. My local gun shop will ship it for me if necessary on your dime. I am located in SW Tennessee just above the Mississippi border. Thanks!

If the serial # is not above 150,000, it doesn't have the proper sized barrel bore for a 22 Mag and only came with a 22 LR cylinder. It definitely didn't come with the 22 Mag cylinder shown; that one was made after 1976 and is a New Model cylinder. The gun will have more value without it and with the original Ruger grips if you have those. And with the front sight filed down to a proper shape so you might as well start filing and sight it in.

Thanks Jim. The previous owner did tell me he had picked that cylinder up from somewhere else. Unfortunately the original grips weren't on the gun. I will probably take your advice and start filing the shark fin down....haha. Thanks.
