I was 9 years old but I remember hearing the name "Pleiku" on the news quite a bit.

sorry, I spent most of my time in the Delta.....
Senior in high school then......Gulf of Tonkin '71, USS Midway flight deck, TAD DaNang air base.
Brother was in Qui Nhon in 65 & 66. I know a Marine who was in Pleiku about that time. I was never in Pleiku.

My Uncle was Air Force.
Think he was attached to something called "tactical air wing" and a civil engineering squad.

I was in an Army Artillery outfit and traveling between Long Binh, Cam Ranh, and Nha Trang from '66-68.
Never went to Pleiku. I was up north near Phu Bai from '70 7- '71, at a place named Camp Eagle.

Civil Engineering squadrons had just what you would expect, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, road crews, water supply, sanitation etc. The Civil Engineering squadron was pretty much equivalent to a municipal services department, and a large facilities department for buildings and such. One thing we never understood was why they put the Fire Department under CE, but the Skycops were their own squadron.

I know he talked of being on her during the fall of Saigon and the pull out operation in '75.

I was with the first deployed F14 sqd. (VF2-CAG14)
