I've been having some fun researching production dates, ship dates, destinations and making note of anything different about the RSS TYPE 1's FLATGATES. Defined as, guns without a hyphen between SINGLE and SIX on the frame, a flat , not recessed, breach and found in the serial # range of 1-20xx.

It started as a list of my collection based on my Ruger letters. I reached out to a few folks and they have added what they know & FT44 got John Dougans permission to add the 26 consecutive numbered guns listed in the book "Ruger Pistols & Revolvers"

This is an anonymous list for collectors'...

I tried to search for gun #265 (#262) ? that I mentioned handling at a gun show in Ashland, Ohio several years ago but could not find it.
The guy was set up next to my table and I told and showed him what he had and offered him $1,500.00 for it. He declined my offer but said if he decided to sell it he would
call me seeing as we lived about 20 miles apart. Long story short he never called and two years or so later I saw it for sale on GB...It sold for $1,500.00!!
I only mentioned it because I seen the number on your list. The only 3 digit F/G I ever handled, no box just the gun in very nice shape.

I had the serial number wrong, it was #271, and it was in 2018. Damn mind just doesn't work like it used to.

Thread 'RSS TYPE I FLATGATE #271'

Sat up at a local small 125 table gun show this weekend, and finally saw a rare one,a RSS Type I Flatgate serial #271.

Everything was correct except the original owner swapped the Flatgate out for a round gate. The frame was a pretty chocolate/plum color with a good bit of "lightning"streaks on the left recoil shield of the cylinder frame. No safety conversion, screws were untouched but the hammer showed some tarnishing. The most wear was as typical for a shooter on the left side of the muzzle of the barrel, I would rate it 93-95%.

It will sell without a doubt but will generate less attention because of the starting price. Nice find Joey, Jay's going to owe you one.

1030 was the subscription number for a fellow named Russel Sims, who was one of WBR's childhood buddies. My notes say that his collection or maybe just the number, went to Don Findley. I found all this out when I got some New Model with that suffix, and for some reason I think it was a KNR9, and Chad filled me in on it being Sims' number. I do not own that gun any longer.
