I've been having some fun researching production dates, ship dates, destinations and making note of anything different about the RSS TYPE 1's. Defined as, guns without a hyphen between SINGLE and SIX on the frame, a flat , not recessed, breach and found in the serial # range of 1-20xx.

It started as a list of my collection based on my Ruger letters. I reached out to a few folks and they have added what they know & FT44 got John Dougans permission to add the 26 consecutive numbered guns listed in the book "Ruger Pistols & Revolvers"

This is an anonymous list for collectors' information only. As you can see, there are no current caretakers listed.
Please PM myself or FT44, or just respond to this thread and I will add any info you have to the list.

Questions, comments & corrections always welcome.
Please contribute.

Sincerely,
Jay

Good luck...... Only 86 were shipped in December 1953.
I think most of the ones "known" are in tightly held collections.
But, there are still a few out there "in the wild" 😎

Cheers,
JAYDAWG

P.S.
Still looking for type 1 Single Sixes to add to the list!!!!

This is where it'll go if you really want it to be a sticky. In my estimation and experience …. With few exceptions, "Sticky" is where threads go to die. Your call.

Back up with new numbers added that came home with me from Tulsa.
When Ruger records sends my letters I will update shipping info.

If anyone has anything to add, please PM me.
Again, this list is anonymous, just for collectors information.

I notice the old famous singer: Mel Torme bought a couple of these.....reminds me of another famous singer: Hank Williams Jr. who is a Big Ruger guy who bought a couple of old Rugers from a friend of mine. He said Hank seemed like a real nice guy and he really loves his Rugers !!!

Some more info on identifying type 1, vs type 2 RSS's. Serial # from 1 up to 20xx.

Thanks to John Dougan, we have pictures that show the difference between the flat breech and stepped breech on the RSS.
The other indicator is the hyphen (or not) between Single & Six on the roll mark.
I took the pics of the roll marks.
These are, the two indicators to determine type 1, as opposed to type 2 RSS's.
Flat breech, no hyphen......type 1
Stepped breech with hyphen....type 2

Cheers,
JAYDAWG
