Finally got what I've wanted for months - GP100

May not be the prettiest gun in the world, but it dang sure isn't ugly :lol:

Not sure if I'm gonna put bells and whistles on it or just leave it like it is but I doubt I'll ever be getting rid of this gun. Anyone know the exact barrel length on this gun? I am guessing it's 4 inches. Never bothered to ask and don't have a tape measure or ruler on hand. I think this one may actually be compact to carry if I feel like it. (Not that I'd actually do that in a major city like Houston, but it is definitely a nice thought) That's pretty much what I was going for.

Since mine is a little "uglier" than yours, and it's 6", perhaps yours is 4"? Either way, you might not believe how accurate it is (can be).

I'll believe it. I went from a Taurus Model 85 to a Blackhawk (decided although my Blackhawk was a beast, I still wanted DA/SA capability, and a Ruger 357, so I sought after an SP101, but stumbled across this GP100 and after hearing how good of guns they were from guys in this forum, decided to take a sip of the kool aid myself).

I will definitely want to change the grip inserts at least. I'd love something with the Ruger logo on it. I haven't shot one with the Hogue style grips so idk if that's what I want or not. I saw this thread in another forum where these guys had these immaculate looking grips on their guns (one looked like this blueish-silvery marble like material, check the link below). Very nice enhancements. But this is the official bedside gun. Although I'd likely grab my Glock first, the Ruger will never leave the nightstand, except for a range trip. I've had mine for a few months. Nicest 38 I have ever owned. 4" fixed sight but they are well regulated for most medium power loads I shoot at about 25 yards. It is more accurate than I can hold. Fit and finish on recent stuff looks better than ever.

Well Chris, you're off to a good start with Rugers. Why not make your next quest the Ruger SR1911. It's a great rendition of the classic. As good as Browning would have wanted.

I wanted stainless too but this one was there, and was calling my name, and it sat there waiting for me for a month so I figured it was meant to be lol...I have no stainless guns, all black. .

Get your hands on one (SR1911). The trigger is great. Has shot anything I've put through it You should still be able to find one for under $700 now that they're back taking orders.

Your GP100 is a 6 inch barrel. I know 'cause my SS GP100 is 4 inch. Mine is very accurate. Yours should be even better with the longer barrel.

Hogue rubber grips are a natural for most guys and GP100s. Your picture is of a 6 incher.

Superb gun. I have one like it in stainless, and it would be a long time before I sold it. Concerning grips, get a set of rubber Hogues and see what you think. They're not expensive, and can be easily sold if you don't like 'em. For myself, I think the originals - like yours- are far better.

I would leave it just as it is, the Large Lett grips are perfect for the 6" GP100.

I have 3 6" blued GP100's, one is about to be scoped, the other one is pretty much stock and the 3rd one I dropped a DAO hammer in and added an XS standard dot sight to.

haha...yeah, maybe "compact" was a stretch haha. I just sold a Blackhawk that had a 6.25" barrel and wow what a difference 1/4 of an inch makes. The more I look at my new acquisition, the less "compact" it looks.

Well I carry a Glock and am perfectly content with that. I just have a fixation with revolvers. Alot of guys tend to lean mainly towards semi autos. I even had a Navy Seal tell me, "why do you want a revolver? Revolvers are...primitive...you have a Glock 9mm, the best gun IN THE WORLD, you don't need anything else. If you want another gun, get another Glock...".

I have 2 Glocks..love em...but these revolvers have much more character and are so much more simple and close enough to fool proof..not to mention, if you need more than 6 rounds of 357 magnum hollow points for home defense...then wow, you may want to make some lifestyle changes haha). Idk, maybe revolvers are considered "primitive" to some, but this GP100 is anything but primitive.

I view my Ruger revolvers as alternate technology for specific purposes, and distinctly not primitive.

The Glocks here are for one application, the revolvers are for others.

In .357, I generally go Rugers for working guns.
In .45 Colt, it's Smiths.
In 9s, Glocks.
And so on...

Ha...yeah, a "working gun" is about the best way to describe this one. As For the Glocks, My 26 is for carry but I have a 40 cal for backup. Among other things that go boom.

I agree that it's a six-incher. I have one like it except it's stainless. It's an amazingly accurate handgun, and it handles hot .357 loads great!

Nice 6 incher. I have the same gun in stainless and replaced the new style grips with ones just like yours. To me, it is the perfect handgun.

most of my revolvers are stainless steel, but I have a couple in blued steel. They are really cool for a switch, very classy! The GP100 is a real classic, hard to beat.

I have one like that but it has the short underlug and a couple 4" stainless ones and a Wiley Clapp 3" one. One of my 4" ones is being converted to 10mm right now too. I like the GP a lot.

I happen to think Ruger is as beautiful as anything made and with durability to boot.
When all anyone can cry about is trigger weight pull... you have a good one.
