Hey y'all, I bought a ruger mpr 556 and after cleaning/oiling it I took it out to shoot for the first time. It would load and fire the first round fine but fail to load the next and it jams the round. Is this normal or a bigger issue?
There is no single shot switch, it simply has fire and safe and the 2nd round ends up getting dented badly leaving brass on the bottom of bcg and feed ramps.
They like to run wet.
Mine too was a bit of a turd for the first 100 rounds or so. However, the fault was mostly mine.
I did not disassemble it, remove the packing grease, clean it well and lube it extra good.
I was not using the factory mag.
I was not using factory new ammo.
Not saying yours is the same ..... just relating that (especially when new) they can be a tad finicky and need a bit of a break in.
Could be as simple as failure to be sure the magazine is fully locked in place, could be as serious as a defective bolt carrier group. The first is easy to check; the second would require a trip home for diagnosis and correction.
In other words, a pretty broad range of potential causes, from operator error, to magazine or ammo faults, to major manufacture/assembly problems.
