Early No. 1 RSI's....

I just keep telling myself "you only live once"... I picked up two earlier RSI's; one in as new condition, the other also as new only with several "safe dings" (I personally hate that term.. A ding is a ding)..

So these two came with boxes, one box says on the inner part "this model does not come equipped with rings, the other box for the .270 doesn't say that... So in essence, the .243 isn't and RSI.. It would be just an SI :lol:

"Early" is pretty relative when it comes to the No. 1, and the RSI in particular.
I have a 270 RSI that has a 130-prefix serial number that would lead one to believe it was made in 1977, but it was actually put together in 1985 and wasn't shipped until 1989!
The only sure way to know how early something is, is to check with Ruger records.

ya, I should have been a little more clear... They are earlier, as in red pad rifles.

Note that the first RSI's are in boxes marked as "AI". These have the handstamp or handwritten "RSI".
Really odd about the one noting "no rings" and other not and having rings. This was a time frame when the sighted No.1's were not shipped with rings.

Nice guns, huge fan of the RSIs myself, but no #1 RSI yet.

Thank for the info el numero, i was hoping you'd post up with some knowledge about the boxes.. As always, this place puts a bit of clarity on my confused and 'lack of knowledge" world.... :wink:
