I have a SS that I bought in '83 that had rode many miles in a holster being my truck gun. The grip frame had about 25% of the finish gone, one spot was about the size of a finger nail.
I thought about buying a stainless steel frame, but weighting the cost, extra weight, and the fact that this frames fit was perfect, I decided to try stripping this grip frame first.
I went to Lowe's and bought their best paint remover and about 2 hours later this was the results. The stripped took most of the finish off by letting it work and rubbing it with a old tooth brush, but a few spot had to be worked on with 0000 steel wool and the stripped reapplied a couple of times.
I finished it up with a set of factory Ivory grips.

I have 2 SS's that are getting ragged lookin also.Looks like a good lookin, low cost fix.Maybe a coat of paste wax to keep it shiny?

Very nice!!!

Tidbit - I have found it wise to also apply a overcoat of laquer or poly to exposed aluminum also. After a couple of years the oxidation mottles a bit.

GREAT job :!: :!: I have used oven cleaner to strip frames then polish :) on some well use guns you can sure make them look better 8) YOU proved that---- really NEAT looking gun :!:

Now that is nice. I suppose without the laquer or other finish on the bare aluminum it will get the patina of a lightweight single six wouldn't it; that soft gray appearance? But this is nice....gives me some ideas.
