He'd been pretty quiet for a while. What a heck of a musician & colorful character he was! Another member of the Wrecking Crew gone.

RIP Night Tripper...

HI,

I read two or three reports of his death this morning, and not one of them referred to the Night Tripper. Did he shed that moniker later in his career? I don't recall years ago his ever being referred to just as Dr. John: he was always Dr. John the Night Tripper. But however we remember him, he was easy to recognize and hard to forget. RIP, old friend.

Your post got me curious, Rick. I visited his website and it's http://www.nitetripper.com/! So no, he didn't shed it. Looks like the industry might have though! lol Yeah, I also first heard of him as "Dr. John the Night Tripper", but his title got abbreviated many years ago I think.

He was a master of collaboration, and reportedly other acts loved working with him in the studio. He had a flare for adding just that special touch to make a good song just that much better. I always sensed that the industry understood his work a lot better than the buying public did.

Quite a guy.
