Glad I use H-110

WOW!!!

I use Titegroup for my 44Mag plinkers and I can see how easy it would be to get a double charge. But since I work a certain way on the loading block AND I look in the cases before beginning to seat the bullets, it would be very hard for me to get a double charge of Titegroup in a case and not notice it.

I think the shooter used enough dynamite! Glad nobody was hurt- and glad it is being shared, good to be reminded to think about your loading habits!

Ouch. He was lucky,

Honestly, squibs worry me more than double charges, since I try to use powders where you can tell if you double it (not necessarily overflowing, but just noticeably different than a single charge).

Not so much on my revolvers (where I'd probably notice it before I cocked the hammer and fired the next shot), but definitely on my semi-autos where I'm firing faster.

I've almost had it happen on my Lee Turret (when I manually indexed the turret), and on my Dillon 550B (manual index). If you stop to dink with something after you've indexed the cases/turret, then forget to pull the handle on that stage and just index everything again.....and you are in that zoned-out-repetitive-motion mode.....you'll seat a bullet on top of an empty case.

Haven't had one yet, though.

I shoot a medium load of 13.0gr of BlueDot with a 240gr bullet in the .44 magnum all the time. It is one of my favorites. A double charge fills the case to the very top. I am surprise that it could be compressed that much. How could somebody miss that? 8) 8)

Ditto. For woods carry I loaded 240 grain hardcast swc's with 16 grains Blue Dot for my brother-in-law. I don't see how anyone could miss a double charge of Blue Dot.

He was using a Lee 'turret'... so the case never was 'handled' after the expand/belling step.... I have never used a turret press so I can't say (in my minds eye and sort'a see how this could happen), but when using a single stage press, there is no way to miss a double charge (IF your powder is bulky enough that is).... As said above, I am more worried about a 'under' charge....
