Does anyone use a Silencer?

Nope. Zero interest. Did it in the Army and that was enough to show me a suppressor makes the best gun, cumbersome.

I do agree they can be a novelty on the range.

No interest in them. I make high powered ammo, wear ear muffs over ear plugs, so I say Whaattt a lot, but then again I do that when I've not been shooting!

There is a guy at our local range shoots a .338 Lapua suppressed. I call it the castrated bull. I would almost be comfortable not wearing ear protection when he shoots it. Allowing suppressors as accessories would save hearing for us old farts who take their ep off during cold range and forget to put it back on!

Never used one. On my ARs I have a flash can that directs the sound forward and doesn't change my loads performance. Some of my rifles have muzzle breaks. Yea it adds noise but rarely negatively affects the performance of the round.

Which issue weapons were suppressed? The only ones I remember were CAR15s (XM177) issued to the LRS Detachments in our MI Battalions.

I do not use one. I found it is quieter to sneak up on southern Idaho gophers with a bayonet. Then let them taste cold steel.

My finger prints are worn off, they won't pass a standard ink press. Folks have suggested digital fingerprinting but haven't found a scanner around here. Can get an appointment & go to the city, but it all just piles on.
Guess I just don't want one bad enough.

Actually you do reduce the amount of noise even if you use supersonic ammo.

A suppressed 22lr and high velocity ammo is comfortable without ear protection.

But when would you use it without hearing protection?

I’ve shot them a couple times, thanks to Ron at the East Coast Gathering.

They are fun, but I can’t see the point. If I’m at an indoor range, I have to wear hearing protection. If I’m outside at the range, unless I’m by myself, I would still have to wear hearing protection.

So they are cool, but I can’t find the reason to justify the cost.

Mine are all they in house name Banish. What I think is the best part, they do all the work with you over the phone and through the computer. You make appointments to get phone calls as the process happens. The time it takes depends on a few things, having a gun trust or just for you are 2 examples If you list only you, it should go faster. BUT here's the thing, no one else has legal right to possess the suppressor if only you are listed. If you pass, your family can't possess them without becoming a felon. So, the trust to me is important. My 2 sons are listed. No spouse since I don't have one. Trusts can be changed if/when needed.
My sons can possess the suppressors without committing a crime of illegal possession. We have copies of the ATF stamp documents on our phones. I have made more paper copies.
I have the small .22lr suppressor, a 30 caliber that's 9 inches long and one that's for full auto 5.56. The 4.5 inch .22lr and the 7.5 inch 5.56 when used on a .22lr rifle both sound like they reduce the sound levels about the same to my and my son's ears. That tiny free .22lr suppressor works darn well. As mentioned, free is not totally free, but still saved about 550 bucks when I got mine.

My stepson and a buddy of his had five silencers in their trust. Two were stolen out of his buddy’s vehicle (idiot). The other three were in my stepson’s 111 year old wood frame farmhouse when it burned to the ground in early 2022. He just replaced the three this year, but took a shortcut and bought them as an individual … I’m starting a trust and adding him so there won’t be any inheritance issues when I die. It will cost him $600 to transfer them into the new trust though…

I had two different ordnance MOS's. One day, out of the clear blue, we were told to assemble at the range.

Don't know the why's, but we were introduced to every clandestine and/or automatic weapon H&K had at the time. We were trained on the operation and maintenance, and we shot everything they brought, all day long and only ceased when we had enough.

Their silencers were very effective. Most of the sound we heard was the mechanical operation of the weapons we were firing.

And we never heard another word on the subject.

Do not believe everything you hear or read. Good Friend passd away 2 yrs back. Had 4 suppressors. His brother mailed death certificate an copy of paperwork and Stamp. Not for sure about Stamp, but got paperwork transfering ownership to Him. Said ATF was really easy to work with

I guess this would be the place to ask: Comparing a .22 LR rifle using sub-sonic ammo and a suppressor to the same rifle using standard high velocity and no suppressor. Any major accuracy difference at 100 yards? 200? Been thinking about this for awhile.

Your changing variables. Different ammo and adding a suppressor adds weight to end barrel which will change the harmonics. Just a wild guess, adding a suppressor helps accuracy 50% of the time, and negatively impacts accuracy 50% of the time. Thats my experience anyways

I have not tested any with and without suppressor velocities. Nor done any .22lf testing except shoot steel plates at 50 yds. I still hit the 8 inch gong.
Center fire rifle calibers I have some testing data. 7mm Weatherby, 308 win, 6.5 CM. No accuracy change I noted. 100, 200 and 300yds.
But all shot much lower with the suppressor. I measured the 7mm at 200 yd because that's where I started it. The rounds were 8 inch's lower than without. Once zeroed the elevation change for yardage was the same with and without at 200 and 300 yds. Does the suppressor cause some velocity lost? not sure. Never researched that.

Obviously you live in a different place than I. No public ranges for me. No signs requiring ear pro. It's up to me whether I use ear pro. The only time we shoot suppressed in a range type setting is for zeroing--the rest is hunting.
FWIW, my 6.5 CM is more accurate with the YHM Reasonator mounted than w/o and is 100% hearing safe.

Yes on everything I can.
A The Silencerco Hybrid 46 makes it easy. Only 1 suppressor from anything bigger than 22LR up to 46 caliber. Rifles and pistols

I have 3. A .22, 45acp and a .30 that I use on everything up to 300wm. I thread barrels on everything I shoot and have the appropriate proprietary muzzle adaptors on them all. That adds to the cost, but I have almost stopped shooting unsuppressed. I zero with can on and don’t shoot with it off so no poa changes. It is about 7” long and weighs 16 oz. Most of my hunting is out of blinds and quite often with a tripod so length and weight is not a factor. I will add my 300wm is a 6+# Kimber and can kills the felt recoil down to about 308 levels!
