Did Ruger ever make.

Help Support Ruger Forum:

Ruger did have a prototype stainless .32 Mag with adj. sights on one of their trade show displays one year, I believe in the mid to late 1980's, but no regular production guns were produced.

jpdesign,

Are you just curious or is it something you want? Because my friend wanted one and it's not hard to make from a stainless .22 single six:

Lower the firing in the frame for center fire.
Install Vaquerito barrel and cylinder (4 5/8" is the only choice of barrel length in .32 unless you have a longer stainless .22 barrel re-bored).
Pull or grind off the blade front sight. Drill and tap a hole in and screw on the blue .32 front sight (slightly taller than .22 sight).
Polish frame to match the gloss finished barrel and cyl or brush finish the bar & cyl to match the frame.

Voila, stainless .32 that would look just like the factory made it except for the .22 rollmark on the frame. Even that can be redone though.

Did an Old Model blue single six for another friend. Since he wanted it, I also reamed the cyl for 327 Fed Mag as well.

Installing a new premium barrel will probably be easier (and better) than hoping to find a Vaquerito take-off. Not much more expensive than having one rebored but with a much shorter wait.

`Course you could always skip all that and just have a blued one hard chromed.

Probably will go custom barrel route, unless I find a take off cheap, as I like a little longer barrel. Guess I should ask if anyone has a cylinder hey want to let go of.

jp,

I found several cylinders/barrels on e/bite and gun broker, mostly blue but a few in stainless. I'd start with a want ad on this forum, I saw a few there. Most are a barrel and cyl set, but I did find them separately as well.

Actually, if we're going the custom route, the easiest way would be to add adjustable sights to the Vaquerito. Easier, quicker and cheaper than converting a rimfire to centerfire, rechambering and replacing the barrel.

Personally, I wouldn't go to the trouble of installing a take-off barrel anyway. By the time you buy the barrel and pay a gunsmith to install it with new sights, you're probably 75% the cost of a premium barrel. Which will shoot better anyway.

I have a .32H&R Mag on a Single Six frame, a guy ordered it from the factory and he wanted different style grips. My Dealer told me he had it, and I went and looked at it and happily bought it.

Good move, they can be hard to find and most times overpriced, but a really fun gun to shoot.
With adjustable sights or like the Vaquero?

Had to enlarge the loading gate chute slightly for the larger cases.

Hondo44!!! It's a shame that Ruger doesn't copy some of your designs. You have a knack for coming up with some real neat guns.
