Took out my two new to me "beater" Blackhawks today and tried them out. Also had my SP101 with me. Just got it beadblasted so i had to put it thru it's paces to make sure it still worked.
The SP101
10.5" Super Blackhawk in 44 mag. Paid $270 OTD for it. Needed rear sight and base pin so my buddy TEK4260 hooked me up with spares he had on hand.
The 4 5/8" model came from a guy in AZ. He had bought it as a gunsmithing school project and when he was done with it decided to move it on. $220 shipping and transfer included and it needed a set of grips, which i had on hand. Has had action job, chambers reamed to (i think) 0.4525 and an almost too tall front sight installed.
After some tinkering i got them both sighted in at 25 then moved back to 50 yards. The Super is very promising. I gotta work with the 45 and get to where i can shoot it ok. I am sure it is all me.
Loads i shot in my 44 are 10 gr of Unique and a 240 gr LSWC. It shot really good at 25 and 50 and i could ring my big ol steel plate at 100 9 out of 10 times...
Both are 5 shot groups.
This was 25 yards...
And 50...
I had a few loads for the 45 i wanted to try.
8.0 gr of 231 with a 200 gr JHP that i couldnt make shoot.
10 gr of HS-6 with 255 LSWC that may do ok but i only had enough powder to load 6 rounds...
9.0 gr of Unique w/ 255 LSWC
and
6.0 gr of Titegroup with a 250 LRNFP
All shot pretty good at 25 but i need work at 50+.
This was at 25 yards with 9 gr Unique load.
And 50 with HS-6 load. Best i could get at 50...
