I recently bought what was possibly the dirtiest gun I'd ever seen.
The gun, a 4" GP100 had been advertised locally on Gunlist for a couple of weeks. At $400, I didn't think it would last long and I didn't respond to the ad. After two weeks and several reposts, I contacted the seller.
We met and I looked at the gun. I couldn't see any rifling in the barrel, the cylinder dragged when cycling the action but the gun had the best single action trigger I'd ever felt on a Ruger. The guy I got it from said he was the second owner. He had the box and all of the paper work from the original owner.
Following some discussion about firearms hygiene, I ended up buying the gun for $300.
It took me two days to get the thing clean. I sacrificed several bore brushes and used every method I had available, to get the bore and cylinder spotless. When I pulled the gun completely apart, I found a perfectly polished action and shims on the hammer and trigger. The single action pull is a crisp 3lb with no take up or over travel. Double action is a buttery slick 8lbs.
When I finally got an opportunity to shoot it, I was very pleased. The gun is extremely accurate.
It also came with three sets of sights. Standard factory sights, express sights and Williams fire sights.
Originally, someone put some time, effort and love into smoothing up this gun. I'm glad it will, once again, get the care and appreciation it deserves.
