Daisy Powerline 880 overhaul

A little break from the big bore cannons today. :)

Finally found my round toit, and tore down my Daisy.

This is an old US made Daisy with the felt oil wiper, and 'O' ring on the pump shaft, not the Chinese made Daisy. Anyway, the wiper was totally disintegrated so made a new one out of some leather, replaced the O-ring and cleaned it all up. Also wrapped the lever. Took about 40 minutes taking my time. Set up a target out back and sighted it in. Was shooting a couple inches right from POA @about 30yds, so adjusted that and got a nice little group in the black. Shooting Gamo pellets. Get about 750fps mv I reckon, which is what a new one was advertised at. No noticeable air bleed down in over an hour sitting pumped up to max (10 strokes). Watch out Roger Rabbit ;)

Altogether, a nice relaxing morning. :)

I enjoy shooting my Sheridan pellet gun. It's a .20 caliber pump from around the early 70s. It too is killer on small rodents. I like to take it on walks down the old railroad right of way with my dog and shoot grasshoppers. :)

Several days ago(Tuesday), I put a Beeman scope on my Beeman dual caliber RS2. I have it set up as a .22. I plan on killing field rats with it. Good going on refurbishing the air gun yourself. :). Castboolits.com has an air gun forum.

Gunny, I am mechanically challenged. It took me two weeks to repair the transmission on my '68 Dodge Dart by myself. Between lack of knowledge, and lack of tools, and a lack of patience it didn't go well. Just the other day I read about using leather washers as you describe, on another forum. My Springers have been lightly used and are only 5 years old. I'll call you in 15 years. :lol:

Big diff between a tranny and an air gun. I've rebuilt tranny's a few time's (including a 4 spd Corvette trans that I put into a 56' Chevy Belaire) This airgun work was a no-brainer piece of blueberry cake. :mrgreen:

Both my Son and Daughter had one of those for their first rifle. 1973 and 1979.
Boy did we shoot a lot of stuff with the.
I think my Daughter still has hers. Son's stock broke on his and moved on to a 10-22

I have two old Daisy lever guns. The 102 36 is near mint, the 101 33 single shot has minimum rust but little remaining bluing. The internet doesn't seem to have much in how to take these old ones apart but I did find a parts diagram so that will have to suffice. Both are in need your leather trick.

Wrapping a lever is pretty easy. Takes about 10minutes. Hard to describe tho. Basically you make a loop along the bottom edge and wind the leather around the loop and the lever from the open end to the opposite end, then thread it thru the eye of the loop and pull the the other end to tighten it. Kinda like making a hangman's noose.

Crap. That doesn't even make sense to me. :wink:

You mean kind of like Whipping the tail end of a rope to keep it from unraveling.

Got one of those in the closet. Great for jays. Though I must admit, I'm really partial to my RWS Diana. Bought it on a whim as it's named after my sis. Turned out to be a very, very good air rifle.
