Covid & Pneumonia

Started getting sick a few days before Christmas. Mostly it was my breathing. I was taking short rapid breaths. If I tried to take a deep breath I started coughing. I couldn't sleep at night. I was back and forth from my bed to my lounge chair. The day after Christmas I couldn't take it any more so I checked into Kaisers urgent clinic. They took me by way of a wheel chair next door to the hospital building into the emergency room. They decided I should be admitted to the hospital also in the same building. I was surprised to find out that I had pneumonia and covid at the same time. How I got covid, I don't know. I live by myself and stick to myself most of the time. So, I had IV's running into me for three days. Then they sent me home on a five day regimen of Paxlovid. They told me that the Paxlovid would make me pee a lot. Well, they were right, I couldn't seep more than two hours at a time before I had to get up to pee. Thank God I'm done with that stuff now. I'm starting to feel a trifle better now but in case you want to know what it feels like to have pneumonia and covid at the same time, I can safely say it feels like I went ten rounds in the ring with Mike Tyson.

Get well soon. I went to see my doctor yesterday about re-upping some meds I'm taking and I asked him about the 1-time shot for pneumonia as I'm over 65. Stung and the shot felt hot when injected. Nurse said a lot of people said same thing about the shot. Still a bit sore at injection site 24hrs later.

Glad to see you back on your feet so to speak. Last year at this time I had COVID and thought I would have to get better to die. This Christmas I spent the night in the ER and two more days in recovery from Type A flu. Hope it isn't the beginning of a 'yearly' thing.

^^^Both of you get well. Sometimes the recovery can get challenging also, at least it did for me. Took much longer than I think it should have. Wifey and I both had it at the same time, so it felt like a double dose.

Darn Cary you don't do things in small doses. Prayers up for a swift recovery. But count yourself lucky. My Kaiser Urgent Care is across the street from the ER/Hospital. They have to get an ambulance to move you less than a thousand feet.

September 2021, I spent 23 days in hospital with pneumonia. I had been feeling poorly for about a week. On the night I went to the hospital ER I was running a fever & light headed. My son drove 50 to take me to ER because I knew I couldn't drive. First thing they said was it was covid. Okay, sure. On the third day the DR. told me I had pneumonia. Spent 23 days in the hospital. Lots of sleep, IVs, O2, steroids, insulin, every episode of STNG, hospital food (pretty good actually), & good people.
The day I was being sent out of the covid ward to general population, one nurse told me they were worried about me. I never felt that I was that seriously ill.
Got 3 weeks of home therapy, home O2, & nurse visits.

since we are telling Covid stories... I had it in 2021, pretty bad. They wanted to put me in the hospital but I have two sisters that are retired RN's. There take was simple, hospitals are where folks go to die. Since it was just IV's, oxygen and Paxlovid I recuperated at home with round the clock nursing care. I haven't been in the hospital since my heart surgery 16 years ago. I have no intention of going to a "death factory" again.

In November of 2020 I got both the flu shot and pneumonia shot, which is unusual for me. In August of 2021 I unknowingly got exposed (by a friend) to Covid on a Monday night ... he found out a few days later that he had the WuFlu but failed to call me. On Friday of that week I was finishing a survey job and started feeling like crap, then the following Monday my wife and I went to a small clinic and both got tested positive, and given scripts for Ivermectin, Zinc and a couple other things. A few days of suffering for me (wife was feeling much better) resulted in going to the ER and was tested thoroughly and found not only Covid but also both double pneumonia and standard Type A flu. The Ivermectin did it's job on the Covid, the other stuff prescribed for the Type A got it in a few days, but it took another three weeks of an O2 machine, prednisone and some others to knock the double pneumonia. Actually, it was a couple of months before I really felt my "new normal" of 75% of where I should be.

I can vouch for the fact that Double P is some bad stuff.

Oh, I'm not a big fan of either the P vax or the Flu Vax.

p.s. when I realized I was getting old, I got married and moved into town..... (where there is a hospital a mile away...). Both moves appear to be good ones for the past 30 years....

I am glad to learn you are doing better. Praying you are fully recovered soon.

We've been through it in the last month or so. The week before Thanksgiving my son had bacterial pneumonia. The week of Thanksgiving his mother & sisters all had bronchitis. Then about 3 weeks ago my wife had to go into the hospital for a kidney stone. They blasted a 6mm stone & put a stent in while she was there. A couple of weeks later she had to go back & have an 8 mm stone blasted. The day after Christmas they took the stent out. Thank God the only thing I've had going on out of the ordinary is a little bit of a runny nose.

My wife has had some issues with breathing at night due to several factors. I moved a recliner into our bedroom. If she is having a problem sleeping because of breathing it is easy to move over to recliner. She sleeps much more comfortably at that point.
Your recliner idea might be a better full time sleep position for a while.
Get some good blankets and snuggle down.
