Cooper's Hawk w/breakfast....my first attempt at pics

Could not get a good look at his "victim" but think it was a Mourning Dove. Judging by feathers found in the area previously they seem to be his favorite.

We have lots of Coopers here, thanks to the suburban bird feeders. The females (larger; yours is one) see to favor doves, both the native mourning doves and the Asian ring doves. The smaller males like house finches and "English sparrows" (which aren't English OR sparrows....".

I've Cooper's Hawks here too. Always nest wthin a mile. Lost a dove a few days ago in a similar scene. I have mixed feelings as to them using my feeders for a food scource. But, hey, I like doves too, just won't shoot the ones here. Can hardly blame'em. stevemb
