Just got my application in the mail yesterday $50.00 for 4 years, I've had one for over 25 years but Im 83 and in crappy health should I get it renewed? I hate buying licens and permits. marriage license, fishing license, hunting license, dog license, driving license I'm sure theirs more I just cant think of them at this time.

I lean toward being legal, and presuming the $50 would not be a burden, I would
renew. Doing it that way (especially in light of how hard it is to get one in OR), you

I have the same dilemma. At 84, and have been in better health, do I renew my NRA for 5 years as I always have?

The question I have is, if you were carrying without a permit/license, and got stopped, would the LEO just sorta ignore the fact because of your age, or would the LEO be a ________ and want to arrest you?
To me it would depend on how your local LEO's or District Attorney might react.
I've know some elderly folks and even some small females to have been "caught" with firearms and the LEO's send them on their way with a "be careful" verbal warning.

Not sure if/where you travel but I maintain my home state (MO) concealed carry permit even though it's no longer required. Having the permit gives me more leeway as to where I can carry in the state plus covers me in the rest of the states that honor a MO permit.

$50 for 4 years seems like a no-brainer to me. If you ever carry your gun outside of your house I think it would be a good idea to have your permit with you. One of the purposes of having a gun is that you don't know what might happen and the same applies to the permit.

Here in Kansas, a permit is not required. But I have had one for two renewals and will continue to renew as I do travel out of state! Traveling on Amtrax next month, KC to Chicago to Sandusky, Ohio, can't carry on board but can have in my checked baggage! Overloadded

If you get pulled over and the officer is a nasty sob and places you under arrest, having your car towed will cost you more than $50, even if the charges for carrying are dropped.
I will still be carrying as long as I can pass the yearly qualification for the HR218. But at some point the reaction time to a threat, being able to fully understand the threat and being able to engage quickly will make self defense with a firearm more of a liability. Being to slow will give a young thug the time to take my gun and use it on me before I could on him or just like in the old west days he could be much faster at using his.

You live in Oregon - have you looked at the crime stats there lately? It doesn't matter if you're 100 miles from Portland get the permit. How many ANTIFA punks can you fight off at 83?

I'm in the same boat and it's sinking. I'm 83 years old, handicapped and my CCW expires in August. The state has always notified me including the paperwork ro renew but hasn't done so this year, probably because we went to constitutional carry (CC). My problem is I have kids in Utah (CC for residents only) Nevada (Not a CC state) New Mexica (Not a CC state) and Texas (CC for residents only). Arizona id a rare one in that AFAIK, it's a CC state for everyone, resident or not. If I haven't heard by the end of the month I'll be making some phone calls. I've got grandkids scattered all over the place and I'd like to see them once in a while.

It would seem to me, the older I get the more important that little piece of paper becomes. The Idaho permit covers 39 states, and I like to take the occasional trip.
