So I have these two new (to me) Ruger SAs marked ".45 Cal".
I don't want them to shrivel up and die so I have to feed them.

Looking on Cabela's website, I see seperate listings for .45 Cold and .45 Long Colt.

Are they the same? (THe "Long Colt" listing is limited to CAS loads.)

.45 Long Colt (LC) is .45 Colt. Same cartridge case same bullet. It's just that the manufacturer puts a different label on them to suit the perceived knowledge of the intended customer.

Both of them can and will be loaded with different bullet types and different powder charges dependant on intended use. CAS, target shooting, elephant hunting, self defense, and etc.

Elephant hunting certainly gets my attention.

Surf over to John Linebaugh's web site. Read his article about the fabulous .45 Colt cartridge. Click Here.

It's certainly an enlightening article. It has definitely influenced my handgunning "habits".
