For those who might have the means, health and time to do so, I recommend Honolulu as your vacation spot for August 15th this year. The link at bottom explains the occasion marking the 70th year since the end of the Pacific War. What the link does not tell you is this will be a one-of-a kind fireworks show never seen before on U.S. soil.

What makes this special is Japan, specifically the builders in Nagaoka are participating bringing their treasured round shells or ball shells. The American public only sees the commercial shells we import from Japan, not the real stuff which are national treasures. Builders of these shells would laugh in your face if you tried to purchase them. They are not for sale but for the first time ever we will be able to see the splendor of Japanese fireworks in America.

I cannot make the trip but my hope is someone here goes and shares the experience with everyone. Regardless, I'll do my best to find good video of the event and post it later in August.

At first, I thought this was a joke. Japan to provide fireworks over Hawaii. Didn't they last do that in '41?

But it's real, and if anything shows how far we have come from the time when we were deadly enemies, this is it. Peace IS possible.
