I've had a few Woodsman types, kinda wentnutson them when I got my first collector's FFL. All types, right up through 1977 (last year) are "C&R" eligible. I just bought a 1972 Match Target in exc condition, for just under $950, with three extra correct-era mags. I passed on the box for a couple reasons.
The current fad of paying triple just because the Colt's name in on a gun is one I'll not participate with. Colt's has made zillions of guns, some great, some dogs. That said, the Woodsman types are great shooting plinkers and target guns. I still like the. Late models a lot.
One of the guns that nowadays, proves the addage "a fool and his money are soon parted". I've seen Woodsman, Challengers, Targetsman, and especially the Match variants with wild pricing. Remember reserve auction selling prices do NOT set market value, only true fair auctions do. That's whyso many use web-auction sites as pricing indicators and are surprised by Fjestads' blue book pricing. They use only fair auction histories.
Research via www.colt22.com for some of the best info on these great guns. No shooter should be without one.
