Colt Python is back!

All these weeks everybody is bragging about fabulous DA trigger on new Python.

However, IMO a bigger question is what is accuracy of new Python, did anybody test it? It will be very interested to see how it compares with Ruger GP100 Match Champion and S&W 686 DX.

I too am interested in how accurate the New Python is. I'll put the barrel of my old blue 6" one up against any factory S&W 686 or GP100 barrel ever made. I've never owned another revolver of any make, model, or caliber that shoots as well.

I will probably buy one but I am in no hurry. I think there are some problems in the early ones but not huge problems. I have a Python Elite I bought in 2004 new that was made in 2003.



When I get a new one I will also shoot it next to my early GP100 and S&W 686 no dash.

I dont often get to "twist the knife", but I am lucky and own two. A 2 1/2" nickle I bought new about 1970 and a 4" blue I bought used as new about 1986 for about $550. I got the 2 1/2" for a unbelievable price of about a $165 on a wild half price sale that Jack First had when he ran "The Gunshop" in Lancaster Ca. years ago. At the first five days of each new year he had a 5 day sale of selected stuff in his store. First day 10% off, fifth day 50% off. The fourth day it was still there so I figured on being there the next morning when he opened to nail it. That night we got the worst snow storm in my 30 or so years of living there. Over three feet! I couldn't get my truck out to the main plowed street so fired up my old harley and broke trail. I got it! It retailed for about $325 back then. I see one like it on gun broker for a buy it now price of $6,400!! Here is both my pythons, and that GB 2 1/2". I have the original grips for both guns and the box and pw for the 2 1/2". I had Alphonso of Hollywood make up that belt and holster for me back then it was about $65!

I know i'll catch some flack for this, but i gotta say it. Ya know that little square scannable doo-dadd on the right side of the frame just in front of the trigger guard? That's a deal breaker for me, kills the looks of the whole gun, in my opinion. Looks matter, especially if you are going to spend big bucks on something. Most probably won't care if it's there or not, it's all personal preference.

Thanks all for the posts. When supply catches up with demand I may just have to get one. To me, the stainless Python is the best looking handgun ever made. Having written this, I do like my GP 100 6 in. stainless a whole lot and for some unknown reason I shoot it better than any of my other handguns. I did replace the repugnant (to me) Hogue grips with the earlier Ruger rosewood / rubber grips which fit me better and look much better.

I watched the video. While "tighten the screws" is an OK fix I think Colt has to do more. Tighten up the tolerances between the interior of the sideplate so the hand doesn't slip sideways, wider hand or put a "male to female" lip up top like Smith does, etc. I have 100 year old Colts that work fine. The hand arrangement on the new Python isn't all that different from the older model Colts.
