Just wanted to get your opinions on this commercial with Reba McIntire playing Colonel Sanders. To me it is just plain weird. I don't understand why they did that.

Does anybody else understand it or have any idea why they did it?

I see this post as one of the commercials comes on TV. I too don't quite get it. Just weird.

They sure don't make you want to eat there.

Me either. The last time I tried the breast was big enough to feed two people and the drumstick size wise looked like something from a TV dinner...what the hell kind of chicken was that?

They did it because ever since that commercial first aired I have seen at least 30 new threads
on the few forums I go to discussing, making fun of and/or ranting about that commercial.
So, everyone is talking about that commercial and KFC.
So it worked.

What I don't understand is why everyone is so upset by it.
IT'S A COMMERCIAL!!!!!!!!!!
Good grief who cares?
Turn off your tv, mow a lawn, pet your dog, wax your car.
It's. Just. A. Commercial.
I am so glad we don't have a television.......... :P

Actually the commercial will only be a success if people eat at KFC, otherwise it was just a waste of money, irregardless of what people discuss.

But I have not seen the commercial so I don’t have an opinion, and could care less anyway.

Edited:
Although I did happen to read a news story about Johnny Walker having a woman on the label and not Johnny. Something about women’s rights. They made a comparison to this KFC commercial and how KFC wanted to or was pushed to support women’s empowerment.

Everyone may be talking about it but it surely doesn't make me want to go to KFC for chicken. I thought that's what commercials were supposed to do? People will talk about a traffic accident they saw but it sure doesn't make me want to have one.

I haven't been to a KFC in probably over 25 years. There is a place in town that makes broasted chicken that I like a lot better. I just don't understand their thinking on this one.

PS. I'm also glad you don't have a television. You obviously don't get the point. I don't get upset seeing commercials. They don't make me want to go kick my dog. In fact they don't affect my life at all. I just think this one is weird and don't understand their idea.

Women's empowerment is dressing like a man and putting on a fake beard. I thought they were just transvestites. How does that empower them?

KFC sucks, around here any convenient store has much better chicken. As for Reba the commercial is just stupid.

Popeye's Chicken opened on this past New year's Eve in my town of 85,000 people. All three KFCs in town have closed their doors since then. Three stores. Two months. One town. Says a lot about KFC, eh? Says even more about Popeye's...

I think it's funny, but then I like Reba.

Doesn't make me want to go to KFC, so the money was wasted, but the giggle factor is there for me.

:wink: :mrgreen: :wink:

That's a Dolly Parton chicken. :D

The KFC of today is a long way from the Kentucky Fried Chicken when the real colonel was in charge. Very sorry story about money men running a business into the ground. I haven't been to one in years. The best chicken in town is at the Pizza Ranch franchise.

If they have any chicken to sell. Even in UK (formerly known as England).

+1 for Popeyes, way better than KFC ever thought about being. Great stuff.

Advertising and marketing have manifold purposes, not simply to increase sales.

Based on some of the comments here, I'd say that #3 might be carrying the weight.

In addition, #6 might be the purpose to which Kevin is alluding.

Basic purposes of advertisements:

Awareness;

Reminder to use;

Changing belief about the brand;

To assist salesmen in marketing products;

Generating direct sales;

Building the company’s image.

I think many many years ago when I had some Kentucky Fried Chicken (that was before the KFC bit) I tried some of the extra crispy chicken and didn't even eat it. The stuff was like it was armor plated.

I don't watch TV so I did not see the commercial. When I was a kid I liked Kentucky Fried Chicken. My father-in-law likes KFC so a while back when we went to see him we picked some food from there up & took with us for everyone to eat. I did not like it. I do not think I care to eat food from there again.

KFC can have anybody they want make their commercials. The fact remains that over in Remington there is a KFC next to the truck stop. When the locals want chicken they generally go to the truck stop. If not for the interstate, KFC would've went out of business a long time ago. In my estimation, the place is simply another McDonald's – cheap, fast and mediocre taste no matter how much they dress it up.

The breast portion of the chicken is what the poultry companies make the most money from. My wife and can eat 3-4 meals from leg quarters versus a two pack breasts.

The red meat avoiders want lots of low fat chicken, so the poultry breeders gave it to them.

We don't eat KFC. I wonder if the producer of the new KFC commercials is the same one who produces the creepy Burger King with the plastic face. I don't understand how stupid, weird and creepy can help sales of a product.

Commercials are commercials. Some have given me a little chuckle over the years. Most do not.

Reba playing Colonel Sanders is weird. It's not at all entertaining, and absolutely does not instill in me any desire whatsoever to run to their store.

Reba sang a few songs that some folks liked listening to. But for some strange reason, she has to keep trying her luck on the silver screen. No one seems to want the heartless chore of telling her "either sing us a song because sometimes that's what you're good at, or get the hell out of our faces". Based on much of what I've heard, that is the vibe I get.
