We've been having a clown infestation in the local area and around MS generally for a couple months. And I don't mean the old time circus variety.

I have a standing rule: Anything on my property that isn't invited, or doesn't look like it lives here, is likely gonna get shot. Many of the folks here have the same rule.

Is this in refernce to the random sighting of clowns that have been reported in areas of the US? I seem to remember reading about a couple different areas noting strange sightings a month or so back.

I first thought you were talking about DC Gunny..

Wat's up though- with the scary Clown epidemic in the national news.?

Need to catch a few of them and water board them. They might be Aliens.

Soro's front men- or Evil Harpy familiars.

Yes. They seem to be spreading. :x

Shooting people that come onto your property could get you in a lot of trouble. There are lots of utility and gov. types that just might wander on your property for some reason and I hate to think you are going to shoot first and ask questions later. :?

Been days... heard nothin'.

Clowns kinda scare me. Late one night... a few nights ago.. one just jumped out of the woods near my property... and I got out of the truck... and shot it. Know I hit it... when it kinda... moved backwards, fast-like... and fell down. Worried 'bout it all night... just knew I was gonna face some consequences. Next mornin'... went to check it... and that thang was nowhere to be found. There was blood... but no clown.

Been worried ever since.

Clowns scare me... ever since I saw the movie... It.

I never saw the movie. I read the book many years ago. I remember reading it late at night. It was the kind of book that would make you check the corner of the room where the shadows are before going to sleep. I don't read that type of stuff anymore.

The Opelika PD arrested a couple of teens for posting such on facebook. There have been warnings from the area PD's that they Will be found. Not the clowns, but the hoaxers. Something about terroristic threats, that nebulous catch-all for whatever they want it to mean.

I believe some local police departments here were threatening to charge some folks with making false reports. Though I seem to recall hearing something on the radio about a couple of girls being chased home by a clown with a knife since then. The police seemed to think that one was a prankster. I don't see anything funny about that type of prank & believe a fellow could get hurt doing something like that.

Funny... The cops do it all the time & get away with it! :?

And what are the odds that a utility or government types would be wearing clown outfits?

Mind you, I'm not advocating shoot 1st, ask questions later.

At least one Police chief in MS is warning these clowns:

The police chief of Tchula, MS, is warning a creepy, machete-wielding clown in a rainbow wig who has been menacing people in town that his antics are no laughing matter and he could be putting his own life in danger.

"I am more afraid for the clown than I am for the citizens because pretty much everyone here has shotguns," Chief Kenneth Hampton told WAPT News last week. "The bottom line is, if he's running around with a sword or a machete, he's subject to get shot in this area."

The chief, who has actually seen the clown for himself, is baffled. "I still don't understand," he said. "I think it is some type of trend. He added, "It is basically a bunch of idiots running around in clown suits without any regard for their life."

Hampton says he has received several complaints in the past week about people dressed in creepy clown outfits terrorizing people who live in the community.

A bunch foolishness in TN, too:

Well... called a fine bowhunter and he came by early this morning. This fella is great at trackin' deer that's been previously arrowed for hours, but not downed. He looked at the spot where I believed I shot him... and indicated those discolored leaves were not blood... but only... early-fall leaves from trees. I knew he was good... could track a lizard over rocks... and he followed where this clown fell, jumped-up, crossed a rock-fence and left a trail in an open field out to the road. Said the clown fella was not moving like he was injured.

Hell... I am an idiot.... shhhheeesshhh... and I have been worried for days now. Almost sleepless. Even had friends checkin' the local hospitals... all for friggin' nothing...

I've said all along... I am the world's worst handgun shot. Probly the safest place out there when I shot... was that friggin' clown.

My bowhuntin' friend said that I probly put the fear into that clown-fella... and he won't do it again. Well... at least that's good to hear.

Hi,

Hope he's right, that it was just a stupid kid playing a prank, as opposed to something more sinister, and said kid has enough self preservation instinct to find some other way to occupy his time...

When Pokemon GO came along, there was a big move to get PSAs going, warning kids against following the game without knowing where they were going, or who might be waiting when they got there. In other words, watch out for the creeps, pervs and ne'erdowells.

Perhaps similar PSAs should be aired to "the clowns" that this fad or whatever it is could get 'em DEAD, and right sudden at that. Sounds a lot like Chief Hampton's already gotten started on that program, and I hope he doesn't get "one of those" calls when bad stuff happens in the middle of the night that involves some clown "just having some fun."

Rick C

Ya know... Rick... that was my greatest fear. That a kid was involved. I think you understand completely.

For nights... had nightmares over it.

Not much to add except to say this is a very real thing. One of the first recent cases to get widespread media attention was from South Carolina in the city my girlfriend lives in. She has small children and was very troubled by it.

I think one of these idiots will get themselves shot one night going around scaring folks at 2am. My guess is many of them are just riding the trend and think what they are doing is funny freaking people out and may not have any hostile intent. Some of them though clearly do.

This one in particular with the machete in Tchula sounds like is very likely to be removed from the gene pool shortly.

Standing rule for my area is, even if you have a reason(and a legal easement) to enter someones' property, it is considered good sense to contact the landowner before doing so. Darned good idea for everyone.
When I set up a test plot, I ask very plainly if the landowner wants me to stop at his house, call, or otherwise notify him of my presence before I go into the field.

Why do you think they invented shovels?

I'll finally jump in.... some of this discussion in my opinion is a little over the top. At least in most states shooting someone on your property because they look strange is not justified... yes, I know everything and every instance is subjective, but still taking it to the point of saying if you do you "just go get a shovel" is inappropriate in my opinion. I know it is all just a joke, but some folks will take it literally and use it against us.... (gun enthusiast)

The Clown thing started here in Greenville, to be honest, I did not know it had spread. Obviously, at least to me, this is some stupid fad most probably promoted and done by young men.... probably young white men since I suspect young black men have enough worries about being shot these days to take this stupid step. Whether one is justified in shooting a scary clown on their property or not... if you do, it is going to be one long road of trouble for you....

nuff said for now....

I think what you are encountering is a group known as the "Jugaloos" they are fans of the rap group Insane Clown Posse and dress as clowns and go around scaring people and doing vandalism. Some PDs consider them a gang but it is mostly pranks and tagging. Remember Halloween is around the corner!

Shoot, shovel and shut up.
Isn't that one of the formulas that serial killers use? ouch. :?

So?

After Sheriff's deputy's came to my door to ask... "Are you the man who shot at the man dressed as a clown?" Apparently... one of my neighbor's has turnt me in. But them deputy's... interviewed everbody out here... in ever direction, half-mile or so...

And my answer was... "Am I under arrest?"

Then this deputy-fella starts in on me... lecturing me 'bout on how I need to call the "law".

Then I says to him... "And the response time out here... 'bout one hour? Really?"

This fella... really, really becomes incensed at my attitude.

And he says it doesn't matter... shootin' at folks is illegal.

And I says... "And you think clowns waitin' round school-bus stops... are up to good?"

And that... my friends... didn't sit well with him.

Ya see... I got three black families livin' and helpin' me on my place... and they got lil-bitty kids that go out to the bus stop. They're precious. And across the road up a-ways... there is a hispanic family livin' in a trailer... close-by... less than a half-mile... and their kids are there, too. At that bus stop.

This friggin' world has gone insane.

Seems like a reasonable rule. I don't like someone I don't know, wearing a mask and sneaking around my property, that may be up to no good.
