Hi,

I was doing some surfing to see who's got what powders in stock right now, and one site said there was a fire at the facility which makes Hodgdon's Clays powders (all three of their listings, Clays, Universal and International has the same note.) They said this series of powders will be unavailable until early in 2014. These guys sell quite a bit of Hodgdon's powders... and don't SEEM to be in the business of spreading rumors!

I haven't found any other references to this problem except a lone blog entry saying all of the Hodgdon's shotgun powders will be affected. Hodgdon's makes a point that "If you didn't hear it from us, don't believe it" and they seem to be silent on this issue.

Has anybody heard anything about this?

I have found out from the MSDS sheet that Clays powder is manufactured in Australia.

...and that Thales has had a long relationship with Hodgdon. I can't find anything about a fire, etc.

quote> “It is a remarkable achievement and a great success story for the manufacturing industry in Australia,” Mr Wall said. “It is a story of product innovation, a story of hard work and a story of developing close working relationships.”

Mr Wall said the propellant made at Mulwala’s Australian Munitions plant has now cornered the US sporting shooters market becoming the number one sought after product.

“We have all enjoyed the journey, we love working with Hodgdon and we hope for continued success between the two companies,” he said.

Australian Munitions (a part of Thales’s global network which includes the Mulwala and Benalla facilities) produces high quality propellant and ammunition for military and civilian domestic and international customers and is a principal supplier of small arms ammunition to the New Zealand Defence Force.

Australian Munitions is also the largest supplier of explosive ordnance to the Australian Defence Force with a successful track record delivering ammunition, propellants, explosives and related services.

The clean-burning propellants from Mulwala’s Australian Munitions factory account for a significant share of the US reloading market and are favoured by consumers for their Ballistic Temperature Independence (BTI), a characteristic achieved through a unique formulation that delivers performance consistency across a wide range of temperatures.

A significant proportion of Mulwala’s 450-strong workforce is engaged in supplying propellant to the US, a valuable contribution to long term employment in regional NSW. <end quote

Hi,

Thanks for the research, Jimbo!

I can't find anything, yet, either. Would hate to find out a reputable vendor's been caught up in an Internet rumor...
