Cerakote expert, please.

I prefer blued guns to stainless. But now I see a Talo edition SP101 stainless with a Cerakote finish. Will this appear more or less like a deep blued gun? Does the Cerakote wear off like holster wear on a blued gun? Do you think this pic is a fairly accurate view of what the real gun will look like?

I will not look like a deep blue gun. It will be a matt, flat black finish looking like a tough powder coat. I assume holster wear will be an eventual issue but it's a pretty rugged finish.

You can get Cerakote to look like a deep blue/black. Midnight Blue mimics that color. You can't get a high gloss finish but mixed correctly you can get a real nice semi gloss finish. Not all Cerakote colors are matte finishes, you can mix the base and the hardener to get an almost but not quite gloss look.

Cerakote will not wear off just holstering a gun that has been properly prepped, coated and cured. At least not for a long while.

I will qualify my comments as I do Cerakoting as part of my gunsmithing business. I have posted here some of the Ruger Six series guns I have refurbished and I did need to Cerakote some of them because they were so far gone.

I'll post some pictures of them tomorrow and I think I can find some of the Security Six that I did in Midnight Blue that will give you an idea of what it would look like.

Thanks for all your replys. Based on all that you said I think I have probably encountered a few guns with this finish. At least they had the matt/satin/semi gloss look you all described. Probably wouldn't suit me. I'll stick to the short barreled blued GP's when they show up. Besides, sooner or later I would probably be shooting the SP with magnums--and wishing I hadn't! I'm a real recoil whimp. Even my GP's are chambered .38 only.

Good looking Redhawk. What kind of grips are those, where did you get them? I like that style grip, it fits my hand good and I have a Redhawk that would benefit having a pair of these on it (both for looks and functionality).

As you can see, Cerakote might not give you that glossy finish, but done correctly, it can enhance your firearms.

This has to be the nicest looking cerakoted gun I've seen yet. I know, photos can always be a little deceptive, but it looks very, very nice. Every one that I have seen prior to this just fall into the tacticool range, and I just don't care for them. I honestly prefer beat-up, abused, and weathered guns to most of the cerakote jobs that I see. This one is a turning point for me.

I like coatings on a lot of bolt guns, AR15s, and a few other random guns that I expect to see parkerizing on, but this is the first revolver that I can actually say that I really like.

Are the stainless guns coated as well? Or are they just media blasted for finish?

The stainless are media blasted after masking off what I didn't want done. I then built a jig to hold the cylinders somI could polish them. The Speed Six I then jeweled the hammer, trigger and flutes of the cylinder for a different look.

Thanks for the comments. The finish reminds me of the matte blue on S&W Highway Patrolman. It wears like iron and is super easy to maintain.
