VCDL has a new video that we would like to see posted far-and-wide!

The video is aimed at the general, non-gun owning public.

If we are to succeed in the future protecting our right to keep and bear arms, we need to bring as many new gun-owners as possible into the fold, and also educate those who have a mistaken view of who we are.

This beautifully done, high-resolution video introduces the viewer to a selection of gun owners across Virginia, with the hope that they see themselves reflected in that random representation.

Many thanks to member Kenneth R. van Wyk, who came up with and followed through on the plan for the video. The idea came from a similar video made by the Minnesota based Twin Cities Gun Owners and Carry Forum. Thanks also to EM Matt Gottshalk, with McGee Digital, who did the first-class filming and editing.

Both Kenneth and Matt have put in countless hours and miles criss-crossing the state to get the footage.

Thanks to those who took the time to be part of the video, including Executive members Patricia Webb, Leyla Meyers, and Tess Ailshire, and regular members Jim Reynolds, Kenneth R. van Wyk, Baraka James, and Wade Woolwine. You might notice one other familiar face, too.

Very good! We need more stuff like this.

I did notice a theme here. Most of the people were more "rural" & "professionals". A bit more diverse cross section of the population might have been a bit better. None of the people shown appeared to live in a big city where it's crowded & with more crime etc. Nor did it show any of the lower income types who struggle, yet they too carry.
It's a well done, quality video, but if I were a rabid anti-gunner I would point to it & say; "These people are the good citizens we can trust. They are not the problem. We need to keep the guns out of the hands of the people who are not good citizens."

I'm NOT trying to be negative about this at all. It's just that I've spent a lot of time arguing with anti's & listening to their arguments to see how they want to control things & how they view things. Heck, here in my area, (around Asheville NC) it's very liberal. Yet, many of the liberal anti crowd here believe that it's ok for some people who will obey the laws, register their guns, follow their mantra to also own guns. They have serious double standards.
I recently did a job for a teacher. Serious Hussain supporter, gay, tree hugger, & by all accounts (as shown on her car by the stickers,) the model anti-gunner. She saw my Ruger stuff on my truck. She & I got into a polite discussion, and not only does she own guns, but she rabidly supports controls. "Register guns like cars. Get a license to own a gun just like a drivers license. Prove you are mentally stable by submitting to a mental health check every 5 years. Do not allow anybody under 18 to touch a gun." All these things were what she believed & supported. Yet, she felt it was all ok to do this & still believed you have the "right" to own a gun.
Luckily, I was very polite & patient in explaining the right to own a firearm was in the Bill of Rights, but driving a car was a privilege. I tried to present a differing view to her, yet she was not going to change her views.
In short, only "approved" people should own guns. And the type of people she believed should be able to own guns are what this video portrayed.

Please do NOT take any of my comments here & turn this post into a political one. I pointed out the stickers on her car as a reference to the normal type of person we find is against our rights. Just like they point out the gun stickers, the NRA stickers etc as the type of person who shouldn't own guns.

All of this is just my observation of how I saw the video.
