I wonder why cats love boxes so much? I received a box of stuff through Amazon and after opening it and removing the contents I set it down next to me. Immediately Callie jumped in and 'did her thing".

Not all cats do that.
We have (4) cats,, and one,, Cleo,, will hit a box as quickly as Callie did. Ruger-Girl,, she will eventually get around to playing in one,, but prefers them on their side.
Sasha,, could care less.
Munchkin, he's a wild card. he plays with anything & everything,, and depending upon his mood,, boxes or not,, he's just playing.

We get our kitty litter in small boxes that have 4, 10.5lb bags shrink-wrapped in a shallow box. Bean and Bandit each have their own empty box (with plastic wrap still around it, of course) on which they lay and soak up the sunbeam by the back door.
They're typical cats though...anything open and they're in it...

In a different vein, for over a year now, we have a big shipping box from Cabelas in the middle of our living room floor upon which Bean and Bandit (mostly Bandit) curl up to sleep or watch TV. We've had to put another box inside and reinforce it because of the "ass-divot" (caved-in lid) in the center of it. We're not permissive parents, are we?
Forum members also know us to be Longaberger Basket collectors...and thus, our pampered boys have expensive beds...

For my birthday a couple weeks ago, I bought the Knobel Whiskey (Mike Rowe's label) "Trinity". The packing material for the three bottles include about 8-10' of 3' wide kraft paper, all crumpled up.
That too is now on the living room floor...in which Bean and Bandit hide, frolic and play grab-azz.
Along with Bean's Popeye's Chicken bag:

Anyone looking in would think we're hoarders or slobs...but they'd be so darn heartbroken if we cleaned up their stuff...

Same here. We have toys, odds & ends that our 4 love to play with. Our home would feel empty w/o the fun & love they bring to us!

We have 4 cats but Charlie is the one who loves to play in boxes and other places he can sit or crawl in. He has grown as you can see and he is even larger now.

My great niece Nora and the litter of kittens that Charlie is from. Nora looks exactly like my 1st wife Lori who sadly passed 5 years before she was born.

Yep, boxes are not the only strange 'resting' areas. The brush is hers alone. Gotta stay beautiful and groomed.

Cats just like close quarters and high places. After going to the grocery store we will drop a paper bag on the floor and the cat is in there in seconds. Nothing but his tail sticking out.
Before anyone says dogs don’t do crazy things. Here is a pic of my sisters dog with its head stuck in a big McDonalds French fry box running around the room.
Bottom line, animals are just fun to watch.

Walter eagerly awaiting his turkey. He sits on this perch and when I ask him what he wants he talks to me. Our entire house is set up for the comfort of the cats. We are unworthy servants to them
We have cats shelves on 2 walls of our living room with bridges over the front window and doorways so they can go around 3 sides of the room without touching the floor. The black and white cat in the picture with the 2 shelves is Nigel. We lost him in 2016. He was my buddy and when my 1st wife Lori died we became even closer. When I married Joan he was hesitant until she started brushing him. He immediately fell in love with her and expected to be brushed daily. He used to make peeping noises when he wanted attention. You can see that Charlie is in charge of everything from his lofty perch.
