Carrying the 7 1/2 inch Blackhawks

I have a SBH Bisley that is scoped - not sure if this is what you are looking; but for getting in and out of a deer stand - this works for me:

Cabela's has a "Scoped Bandolier Holster" for about $35 - functional for hunting, climbing into a stand, etc; but not really for long term wear.

I much prefer the bandolier type holsters as well. They seem to keep that long barrel out of the way while moving around.

If you are looking for a true "top shelf" holster try the Ringler Custom Leather Wyoming Combination holster. It is custom made to your gun and measurements and is uber comfortable to wear.

I have a Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter with a Red Dot on top and that holster swallows up the gun quite nicely without feeling cumbersome.

The pictures on the website make the holster look much larger than it actually is. I had some reservations when I bought mine but after it arrived, I am so much more than satisfied.

I like them on my hip with a heavy cartridge belt. I personally don't like cross draw holsters because they just don't feel right. I think that is from carrying a gun on my right hip for so many years.

I also really like the bandoleer type shoulder holster that is sold by Freedom Arms for the 7.5" model 83. I rate that as the ONLY shoulder holster I have ever been able to wear comfortably and it is the best hunting holster I have tried. It fits the 7.5" Rugers perfectly. In a tree stand I can draw the gun with minimal movement and can wear my fanny pack without the handgun being in the way.

So for me...woods bumming a hip holster is fine as long as it is not on my pants belt and for hunting the FA shoulder rig.

I got the simply rugged "Cattleman" holster. PERFECT fit and is very comfortable to carry on my hip all day on a hunt..

I have a Ruger RedHawk (7½") and an S&W Model 29 (8 3/8"). Both are scoped. My choice is the Bianchi Hush System (across the chest or bandolier type). They are out of the way, easy to put on or take off. They quickly adapt to heavy or light clothing and work well in heavy brush.

I consider this system to be perfect. They are made of padded high strength nylon.

Those 7 1/2 inch Super Blackhawks make fine shooting guns. For carry I prefer a 5.5 or even 4 5/8...

Since the early '80's, my 7.5" SBH has been packed in a Bianchi Cyclone cross draw holster. Love it. steve b

I carry my 7 1/2" 45 Bisley in a Ruger/Binchi flap holster that was actually for a super single six and I wet moulded it to fit the Bisley.
I carry it on a Hunter cartridge belt with Perry's suspenders.
I can tromp all over the deer woods very comfortably all day with that rig

Not if you want to hang that cannon from your hip, Bigshot. Sitting is out of the question in any normal conveyance, and that includes deer stands, but doesn't include saddles. I'd go with one of those "tanker", cross the chest deals...plus it'll keep it out of the weather. Rod

i've got an Uncle Mikes rt hand nylon belt holster for a 7/17' SBH that I don't use anymore ,it's in like new shape .If you want it it's yours if your willing to pay the shiping .I carry mime it this rig now .

I carry all my 7 1/2"+ guns crossdraw in a simple strong side holster attached to a quality belt. I like simple over the complicated shoulder holsters, been there. Ask 100 people and you'll get 50 different opinions. You've just gotten mine :wink:

You are almost right. That is a Clark holster for a 7 1/2 Blackhawk. Clark went out of business 35+ years ago.

You're probably referring to Lawman Leather who makes the "Original Dirty Harry" holster. There are many people posting in various forums they are not receiving their holsters after paying and waiting 1-3 years.

For me, it depends on how I'll be hunting. If I'll be just walking around the woods, any of the good hip holsters work fine. However, if I'll be sitting at any point (and most of the time I do), none of the belt holsters work well for me. In those cases, I prefer a good bandolier or tanker-style chest holster. Even with no gun in the belt holster, strong side or crossdraw, when I sit the holster digs into the seat/ground and jams into my side. For this reason, I usually use just the tanker-style chest holster on most outings. YMMV

Shoulder holsters work well for hunting and the amount of clothing you ware won't matter.

I really like Lou's style holster but try wrapping that around a winter hunting outfit and it ain't so great...
