I want to replace the flip up sight with a carry handle sight. Will any detachable carry handle sight let's say a Colt A2 detachable sight work without problems? I'll be mainly shooting at 100 yards. Thanks for your input.

The answer is maybe.
Depends on what front sight you have. If you have the GI A frame front sight there are two different heights.
The older type found on the original M16 and early AR's is just a little shorter that the ones made for the removable carry handled models. I don't remember at this point how to tell the difference but the info is easy to find on the net. It also depends on who made your AR some of the off brands mixed parts and you never know what you will find. Pretty sure they make a higher front sight post that you can use if you have a early A frame sight. Check Brownells or Midway. If you have a folding front sight I don't know what the answer is Probably will depend partially on whether it is mounted to the gas block or a rail and you will have to check the front sight manufacture's specs to see how high the sight is.

The FSB on the AR556 is F marked correct? If so it uses a milspec Height carry handle. Non F marked FSB must be used with commercial height carry handles. They are easy to tell apart as the commercial height has the deck milled .040" lower so the sight assembly sits lower in comparison to the actual carry handle. See pics here:

Do yourself a favor and spend the money on a nice milspec detachable carry handle. There are a ton of Chinese copies floating around for sale and they are junk IMO. You can find nice used handles for $50-65 with a little shopping.
