I just received my new M77/44, and for the life of me I can't get the bolt in. Any advice?

Not familiar with the 77/44, but on some types of bolt-action rifles, you need to hold the trigger back while inserting the bolt. On some others, there is a spring-loaded bolt retainer along the side of the receiver.

My first suggestion, though, would be to read the manual.

RNorris,

There is one other possibility. The striker (the last 1" of the bolt assembly) was turned to allow the firing pin lug to fall into the notch (next to the bolt handle at the rear of the bolt body). If that has happened you are going to have to twist the striker to move the firing pin lug along the diagonal surface of the notch. Continue twisting until the firing pin lug drops into the detent (on the rear of the bolt body). Then the bolt assembly should insert into the rifle just fine.
