Cabela's revolver pricing????

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to their pricing. I see a regular 3 screw 357 BH for 800.00 and then a FT 3 screw for 529.00...looks like a great deal for someone. They seem to be all over the place. There are new model SBH's for double the going rate and 3 screw SBH for less. I guess whoever does the pricing at various stores have varied levels of knowledge about these things. I also see Redhawk revolvers flying out the door at between 600 and 750 dollars used.??? I bought mine for 600 like new local in a 5 1/2" cause I couldn't find any other, but by the time you get one shipped and otd, that is astronomical, especially considering I see the long barrelled versions locally for 450-500 quite often. Its a weird world of gun trading of late!

I don't think Cabelas has a standard way of valuing Rugers. I have seen some really overpriced stuff and also some good deals. Then there was the RSSE they advertised for $900... :roll:

I like Cabelas ...in general....but thier WHOLE gun dept. appears to be overpriced, compared to many other places. I can get a BH at Buds, for 427.....why pay Cabelas 600 or better.....NOT!

I picked up a like new early 80s Wingmaster for $299, with a $75 off $300 purchase coupon. I had to get a pair of earplugs to make the deal work.

I've seen several good deals there.

I agree, some are overpriced. Then I snagged a Remington 788 in 30-30 with scope. Price was 250 + tax. I have scored several Rugers from them. greg

A few years ago, maybe 4 or 5, my #1 SIL and his son (my grandson also - just didn't get him until he was about 13) left out one Black Friday looking for a little higher grade Beretta shotguns . They went one way, I went another. My second stop was Cabela's. There had been a Quail Unlimited gathering a few days earlier. Beretta had furnished about 10 guns of that model for those who wanted to shoot sporting clays. Cabela's had purchased the "demo" guns and had them priced at less than half of retail. I called SIL and told me what I had found. I think that five or six had not even been shot. SIL asked me to snag three, and that they were on their way. Deal done at a savings of some $600 each. A few hours later SIL #2 arrived, saw the guns and wanted one. We went back and got another NIB model. While paying out, The gun library manager came by and opined to the clerk that the Berettas were way too damn cheap and told him to re price the remaining ones.

Yes, most of their stuff borders on obscene in price, but occasionally they screw up. jack

My local Cabela's will negotiate on just about any used gun. They are generally over-priced, but make them an offer and they will send you back to the gun gallery for approval from the guy back there. He will get into the book to check on what they have in it, and accept your offer or make a counter-offer. I have found some great deals at Cabela's negotiating with them.

There is a local large shop that seems to be much the same as Cabela's. Some of there stuff is sky high but there is also inconsistency and thus deals to be found. My last was a 98% S&W model 36 with a 3" barrel for $212.00

This is also the case when trading in. I got a miserable offer on a Ruger #1. Learned that guy's face and returnded a few weeks later when he was not around and got an extra $200 on the same gun.

My local Cabela's revolver pricing is smack dab in the middle of "crazy" and "high." Even their sale prices are $50 over.

I once bought a brand new bearcat from gander mountain for a closeout price of a 175 bucks. I asked why so cheap and the kid behind the counter said because it is a 22 mag and nobody wants it. Well i knew that it sure as heck wast a 22mag. Picked it up and sure enough some idiot had put a tag on the trigger gurard that said 22 mag. I couldnt get my check book out any faster. Was also in there one day when another kid behind the counter was answering questions from a guy looking at a 454 raging bull. the kid told the man that his buddy had one and shot it once and broke bones in his hand. I had all i could do from busting out laughing right in his face. Then there was the day i was in there and there was a 458 #1 on the shelf and the salesman was telling some guy that he had one and they were at the junkyard shooting at cars with it and he shot through the grill into the block and actually moved the car backwards a couple inches! For the most part the mountain in gander mountain is a big pile of ***! by the way the local one is still selling primers at 5 bucks a box which they have been since the shortage when they jacked up the prices. I wont buy ANYTHING in there anymore.

Hate to brag but I picked up a golden Mounte for 225.00 at Gander Mt in Richmond Va about a year ago the bullseye was missing and stock had to be refinished other wise perfect metal I was elated. These are 6-7 hundred at gun shows This one stays here.

I bought 2 SP101s from Gander Mountain for $250. A 2.5" S&W 686 for $275. The same store had a Marlin 39 that looked like someone used it to club rats for $395.

If they are having a slow day like on a weekday, you can get them to deal, especially if you buy two guns at the same time. Get the gun you are after and take a beater for a project gun. They are about moving inventory, sometimes at the sacrifice of profit per unit.

I am determined that one day a Savage 99 or FN Browning beater will come home for a restoration project when I buy a replacement handgun for the S&W 1076 I sold them last year.

Their Ruger single action prices are all over the place, ya never know what they were thinking. They are high on Uberti, EMF and Cimmaron SAA clones for some reason, I guess it is the Cowboy interest.

It pays to be patient and polite. You need to give yourself enough time in the store unrushed to do your assessments of the various things sitting in the racks and cases right that moment, do your homework on various gun values and realistic pricing on the stuff you are interested. When you approach the Gun Library guys for your deal, know what you want to do and throw down a serious offer you are ready to do. It haas worked for me.

I collect (read that as accumulate) older S&W revolvers for the most part and don't post here often, but I do look-in from time to time.....what I want to add to this thread is that I have bought a couple of handguns from Cabelas (over the internet) over the years and what I have found is that just 'cause they have a high listed price doesn't mean they won't look at a lower offer.

I've found that you need to ask for the guy in charge of the gun department at the particular store your looking at (be willing to call back again at a later time if necessary) and make an offer......sometimes they will deal with you...sometimes not, but you need to talk to the guy in charge...that's the key.

I used to buy 20-25 guns a year from the Glendale, AZ Cabella's. Their standard markup was 30% over their cost. If they bought it right the price was reasonable. The more they paid the higher the final price tag. I would find something I wanted and ask what the out the door price was. If it was right, and it was most of the time, I bought it. About a year and a half ago corporate policy changed. No discounts on guns for 90 days, basically no reasonable prices to be found in the Gledale Cabella's gun library except in very rare cases. I used to go into the store 3 to 5 times a week but now stop in at the most once a month. The days of the $199.00 boxed RSS5 are probably gone for ever at the local Cabella's.

I have tried on 3 separate occasions to purchase a firearm from Cabela's over the past year...1st I found the same gun $100 cheaper doing my "due diligence" two blocks away...2nd, a $15 short appraisal on a 95-98% trade-in cost 'em $530 bucks worth of my business...don't even remember what the third instance was anymore. I've about given up on buying firearms from Cabelas, but you can bet I'll jump on ammo sales in combo with Cabelas Bucks and in store pick-up and score some deals that way!

I don't bother for the most part with Cabelas main display area. First place I check when visiting is the "gun library."

In the past year I have bought:
Ruger Speed Six 357 Mag Blued - almost perfect but with no box - $275
S&W M&P 40 with box and 3 mags, like new in box - $345
Kahr PM9, gently used - $450

I have seen guns WAY overpriced, and I have seen fantastic deals like above. I keep $100 in a saving account specifically to put money down (layaway) for when I find something too good to pass up.

I dont know if this in common at other Cabelas but in the CT one it takes about 30 minutes to get waited on and then 45 minutes more before you can walk out the door with a gun.

This happens all the time, week days. Then have 4-5 people behind the gun counter also.
