I've still to add a 7x57 sporting rifle to my collection. Just noticed this on the Cabela site. Have these been around for a while or is this a new offering? I'd have to sell some other toys but it sure does look nice.

Looks nice, although a bit pricey. They say it is "fine" walnut. I wonder if it is Circassian. The only thing i don't like about the Cabela exclusives is that they usually have their logo on the bottom of the receiver. I noticed Winchester is going to have the 70 Featherweight in 7x57 this year.

If they had this made with a 26" medium weight barrel (as their picture shows), I would have HAD to order one. Since it's just another iteration of the 1A 7x57, I can easily pass.

I have one that I purchased around 1978. I have killed several deer and turkeys with it and love it. I only shoot hand loads with it and since factory rounds are downloaded to accommodate all the old WWII rifles around, I can load it up a lot hotter.

I had a look at Winchester's site. I wonder why the 26" barrel? When I think of a 7x57 I think of a handy light rifle with a barrel of 20" to 22", maybe 24". Not something with a barrel the length of a varmint rig.

You know, it also shows a capacity of 3 (?). I wonder if they copied and pasted the specs from another model and forgot to edit the barrel length and capacity????

That could be a mistake on the barrel length. I have a Winchester 70 Lightweight from the early 80's in 7x57, and it has a 22" barrel.

I thought the same thing. I assume a 7x57 Featherweight would have a 22" barrel. It's probably worth a phone call to check it out if you're interested.

I will say that I was on Winchester's website a few times around the SHOT show and a lot of things were changing, both in terms of formatting and in terms of the information. I suspect that the specs on the 7x57 are a mistake.

I bought their SHOT show special from last year - a Featherweight in .257 Roberts - and really like it. If I was after a 7x57 I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on this one.

interesting about Winny. I absolutely love my FN SC-made Model 70 in 243 but I'd probably trade it for a 7x at the drop of a hat...
