Each day as I surf the gun sites, I catch more and more of these ads that appear to be scams. I hope folks are smart enough to catch these. Seems the scammers don't have a great understanding of modern English, nor do they have a great understanding of the relationships of our Cities and States. New York, California? Kansas City, Idaho? And listing a phone area code of a completely different state? But they sure have great prices!

I do report these to the webmasters as I find them, but with so many, it takes time for them to be eliminated. They remain as a current ad for a day or two til they are gone.

Most experienced and savvy gun buyers would catch these scam-flags immediately, but I do worry about less-experienced gun buyers that may not.

Apparently they didn't get the memo. You can't put anything on the 'net that isn't true and honest. :wink: :roll:

Anyway, this kind of thing is why I rarely buy anything on-line, and when I do, I only buy from reputable businesses that I have researched or done business with. I don't buy anything off E-Bay or any other similar site - ever. And certain categories of stuff I never buy on-line no matter what. Guns, cars, major tools, and similar things I never buy on-line. I have one ammo supplier on-line that I trust, and it took a "first we try, then we trust", phone and email conversations & a small transaction before he qualified for future business from me.

Yeah, I'm a suspicious SOB, but I've never been burned either. :twisted:

In the past I have bought SEVERAL guns over the net but about a year ago I had 2 bad deals, one from a guy in Arizona the gun was broken, the other from a guy from New York had to go to the police here and they contacted HIS police dept and the gun was sent the SAME day.
NO more internet buying for me.

Too bad the scammers are causing folks like me to be lumped in with them. Believe me...We are not all crooks.

If it wasn't for internet buying, I would not have the access I have to collectible Rugers, or catalogued Rugers that the local stores will not stock in their inventory.

I have a similar problem - I live in Yuma, AZ, and have a Maryland phone number. Bought (and activated) the phone in MD after returning from Korea. I see no reason to change numbers, either.

Area codes don't do much these days... I've been running a service business for 30 years and about half the folks who call me here in the upstate of S.C. now have out of state area codes. But the zip code and other items would surely spook me.... I've only bought via the net with folks here on the Ruger Forum.. and usually they have thousands of post and you can go back and see who they are from that.... I can't imagine a crook taking the time to post here a thousand times just to rip one person off.

Area codes are of course, irrelevant in the day of no-contract cell phones. If I need a business phone with a Manhattan area code while I live in the mountains of AZ, it is easily done. Or Brooklyn, MI...

To the original post, I have seen a couple of these on "Armslist" as well. Generally, if the price is just to good to be true, it's a good chance that it is a scam. I have tried to contact a couple of these folks to no avail. One guy had this strange west African accent....... as the title says, buyer beware. Dave

bought several guns from Buds. No problem. Much more guns on a local gun trader site. No problem. Bought a youth version cut down stock .22 semi auto rifle from right here on Ruger forum, and one of our members burned me. Eventually the mods told me to shut up about it. I recently found it in my shed a couple weeks ago, still in the torn up box the seller sent, still missing the broke off trigger assembly. Anyone want a box of junk?
