Busy week with the Camera's and close crossings

I pull the cards from my camera's on sunday morning, scan through them, and replace the cards that afternoon on our walk.... It has been REALLY busy this past week. More so than usual... What is most interesting(?) is the close proximity to when my dog and I pass through, and the bears show up. I have to say.... it is pretty consistent and more than a little surprising...
The only new element to my routine is the recent addition of trail camera's.... meaning of course that I was certainly having near misses for almost 20 years.....
These screen shots include the date and time stamps....
In the first shot we see the sow with 2 cubs entering the frame (from the east....), time is 9:54 am...... 15 minutes after I went through with my dog (had the time been closer she would have smelled them and alerted)..
Then at 10:06 am, the sow with 3 cubs comes in from the south......
I guess I'm glad I didnt doddle any more than I did that morning.... it could have been double jeopardy...
Later that afternoon, the the sow with 2 cubs returns from the west, and that night a boar comes through.... There may be 2 boars but probably just the one...
Since the brow bears have started coming through the black bears are long gone.... I have a good number of clips but these get the point across...
I also have a young bull that showed up..
I'm putting together a YT short of the bears crossing that I will post as soon as I record some audio....
These 2 sows are unknown to me and I have no idea how they will react... The sow will just the one cub... well.... I hope she stays consistent and runs off with junior....

About 2 hours after seeing roughly 50 pictures of mule deer on one of cameras, I had a good-sized mountain lion come through. This is the fourth time we've seen him on our property since buying it about a year ago.

I love those photos. After retirement I started playing disc golf and you see a lot of wildlife while playing. One day I was playing and there were some deer just sauntering by and I just continued to play and they were totally unconcerned. I took some pictures, I was within 50 feet of them and just kept playing and they weren't bothered at all. Another story. One day me and a couple of friends was playing in the same park and there was a big hawk hanging around and hoping to snag a squirrel or something. One of my discs that I use a lot is a bright powder blue in color. Every time I threw that disc the hawk would take off and chase it. He never attacked it but something about that color really got his attention. None of the other discs of different colors seemed to interest him, but the blue one sure did.

Camera's what?

well.... it happened.... yesterday afternoon.. just after 4pm.... kaksi and I where out doing our afternoon walk... (been pretty regular for 15 years)...
we were taking the "short loop", and we were about 25 yards or so from the "T", which will take us directly back to the cabin...
She was ahead of me... already at or past the "T" in the trail. It's wooded with a lot of high brush that still has leaves on as well as some other obstructions to visibility.
We had just passed a fresh pile of poop... which wasn't there this morning... not all that unusual.....
Kaksi was obviously up the trail a bit when she suddenly alerted hard and was followed up by a very load roar....
Unless you have heard one in person... it's nothing like on TV.... this was my second time hearing one, but the proximity was alarming.
My dog stopped barking and my heart sunk...... but then I saw the flash of white as she beat feet back down the trail to the "T"....
The bear let out another set of very guttural roars... my rifle was up... 4+1.. safety off when I saw it through the brush... it was coming fast... (It couldn't see me because I was on the other part of the trail before the T )
I didn't want to kill it, so I fired off a warning shot and the bear 180'd on a dime and took off back the way it came. I couldn't see much and it was gone in the blink of an eye.. Kaksi had continued barking... she went back down the trail to investigate but came back.... I waited there for some time before returning back the way we had come. There was no way to tell which way it had gone so I had probably still had a chance of running into it again.
Once my dog knew the direction she went ahead... no more barking so I knew the coast was clear.. We got back to were we had Y'ed off from the main trail. At that point on the south side of the creek, we can go straight or go to the right (west). When we began the walk, kaksi was ahead, and far enough ahead that I have to guess which way she went. I had stood there wondering which way she had gone, when I saw her on the trail (it's a loop actually) going west...
If I had not seen her in the trail I had a 50/50 chance of choosing to go straight. Which would have put me on a head on meeting with that bear. The way it acted it was probably (most certainly) one of those sows. When we got back to the creek my dog went back down the trail where the bear had been, then came back..... all jazzed up and I'm sure very happy (karelians are sick that way...)
We got back into the yard.. kaksi kept testing the air and barking for some time... which is normal for her....
One thing is fer sure.. I gotta change our walk times, and I'm going to re-verify the zero on my main rifles......
