Building code problems

mother in law had one of those real tall palms with the ball on top. She worried about it falling on her house. So I rented some spikes and a safety belt and up I went with the chain saw. The plan was simple, just cut the ball off and let it drop, then cut the trunk down in sections.

All was going well until I cut the ball off the top. You see palms tend to lean opposite of the prevailing wind. So when the ball toppled off the trunk recoiled. I must say that was the most terrifying ride of my life. After I had the tree all the way down I made a solemn vow to pay someone else to do it next time.

Good to know. I will never try it!

In my corrupt town we have 2 businesses running out of their homes, zoned Residential. Town Zoning will not investigate unless I file a complaint. I am not 100% sure they are in violation but would like Zoning to check it out.

There is a wooded lot next to me the is zoned "unbuildable". I inquired why, and I was told because its landlocked, even though it sites of 200 ft of town road row, as yet undeveloped. When I has who determined it was unbuildable and how was this determined, there is not record. All it says on the card is unbuildable, not signature, not notes, pure corruption.

I asked if I purchased it would it still be designated unbuildable and I was told no. The result would be the assessment going from $6000 to $60,000+..

Back in 2008 I watched a guy earn $2,000 in about 30 seconds doing that. He was strapped to our big pine about 80ft up that was leaning at a 60 degree angle over our house from the ice storm the week before and he cut the top 20ft of that pine off and it was tied so that right after it fell past him it caught and did not fall on the house. This caused him and the tree to swing forward about 30 ft and then proceed to swing in a circle for the next half minute or more....

How did the city/ county find out? Does your neighborhood have an HOA? (damn them to hell).

Perhaps some of you might have some insight into this situation…

It's not really a building code but I don't know what to call it. Red tape more like it.

So about a year ago down at the beach the guy who built our house got a great deal on some palm trees.

He planted two of them out back. I think they've been in the ground for around a year now.

Yesterday I got a letter from the county department of environmental health. Someone "complained" that these two trees are planted on top of the drain field for the septic system.

They are very close, but not directly on top of the drain field.

I called the contractor who built the house and planted the trees. He said he would help,

But I'm thinking a lawyer?

Any thoughts?

Do you really want to replace your septic field in a few years when the roots destroy it???

I get code has it's place but if you don't care how the trees impact your property / septic, why should anyone else care? Not hurting anyone but possibly yourself.
