For those of us who grew up watching Chet Huntley and David Brinkley or Walter Cronkite, TV news these days is pretty sad. Those old-timers were journalists who got their start as newpapermen. For the most part, they composed, reviewed and edited their own stories. Today, they are entertainers.... the term "talking heads" fits them perfectly; they just look pretty and read what's put in front of them.

Funny you say that because it was pretty well know that Walter Cronkite was anti-war and anti-LBJ and this was on the news broadcasts.

I think Brian Williams had a case of an exaggerated personal recollection, something most people can understand if they like to tell stories.

Funny you say that because it was pretty well know that Walter Cronkite was anti-war and anti-LBJ and this was on the news broadcasts. .....

Walter was a war correspondent in WW II, and he saw what war was all about..... but he knew that it was necessary. Vietnam was a different story - he saw it for the waste of lives and resources that it was. And as for being anti - LBJ..... well, that's just fine with me.
