Yes, the stainless/ivory grips in the top pic is a Ruger Vaquero, and it got quite the workout today.

The women seem to enjoy it. I don't know about the men as none of the women took the time to photograph us. And now my wife won't give me my Liegi derringer back.

I also like the smell of real BP and load and shoot it for fun. Going forward, I do need to get some bullets meant for BP usage. Just been using whatever, and dealing with it. I use my NM Vaq Sheriff .44spec and my Dad-n-law's NM BH SS .357. It fun and the power level is nothing to sneeze at ! stevemb

Try the same bullets just change your lube. SPG is good stuff for BP. I make my own lube for BP bullets (bees wax, crisco, olive or canola oil). Adjust amounts of bees wax and crisco to make it soft enough to use in your sizer without being too soft to get "mushy". You can also pan lube like I do with unsized 45-70 bullets in my Sharps. Stand the bullets up in a cookie sheet or other pan, melt lube, pour in pan allow to harden (still warm but firm) and push the bullets out. Lube sticks in the grooves and you're done.

You can use a grease cookie under the bullet. A card wad of appropriate size (punch from heavy poster board with an arch punch) over the powder and compress slightly, press case mouth in the lube (about 1/8" thick) and cover with another card wad and then seat the bullet. Time consuming but it works. In fact, a lot of the guys shooting black powder cartridge silhouette do this even when using grease groove bullets.

I never needed to do it since the homemade lube in the bullet (cast my own) was sufficient to keep the fouling soft and keep the barrel from leading up.

But if you want to give it a try until you get different bullets without lube already in the grooves, this method will do the job.
