FWIW, I'm feeling the effects of no Aleve. Probably have to start seeing a rheumatologist (sp?).

I use Aleve but I only take one if I need it and that is on a rare occasion, that said I started using Turmeric and it worked really good for the arthritis in both of my thumbs. It was about a month when I realized that my thumbs were not bothering much at all. What works for one person may not work for another but it's worth looking into. Hope this helps you. One more thing you can do is take a look at "WEB MD" for some good information on arthritis and other ailments. MC

My Ortho, Cardio, and PCP all advised me against Aleve. They are all under the same medical group Wellspan. So they review my meds every visit and ensure it all plays nice together. Cardio has me on 81 Baby Aspirin and 40 Atorvastatin. PCP has me on stuff I can't spell or pronounce and don't feel like getting up to walk to the pill dispenser and read the bottles at the moment. Years back my Ortho put me on Celebrex 200MG twice a day. Even after my knee replacement my back surgeon kept me on it. My Cancer Doc (Urologist) reviews it also and he's good with it. He and other check my blood every 6 months. The cocktail they created seems to have worked for my blood pressure as I was typically very high and now average 130. They all pretty much say the meds are one thing but the best thing would be to lose some more weight and lay off the beer and bourbon....I've cut back considerably on beer and bourbon, and watch my diet...but exercise is difficult when you walk with legs that move like they are frozen.

You never think meds are working until you stop taking them. A couple years ago before my knee replacement I had to stop taking the meds. No biggy I said as I felt they didn't do anything anyway.....holy crap was I wrong. The last two surgeries I've had I dreaded when I had to stop taking the meds prior to cutting time.

I had L 3-4-5 vertebrae fused in 2006. I experienced some pain even after the surgery, primarily in one hip. My son said he took aleve to manage pain in his back (he's a helicopter pilot). So I took an aleve in the am, another in the pm, and my pain went away. I stopped taking the aleve and the pain returned. So I began taking aleve - one in the am and another in the pm - as a daily activity. Been doing it ever since 2011. No more hip pain (unless I'm on a trip and forget the aleve - the pain returns on about day 2).

I used to take a couple of aspirin daily - to keep my blood pressure down. But my doctor (an internist) persuaded me to stop taking aspirin altogether. His logic: the benefit of thinner blood (lower bp) is offset by the risks associated with thinner blood (can't stop internal bleeding, etc.).

This was the only doctor whom I could trust. He was my next-door neighbor for several years prior to me asking him to be my doctor. So, we have very candid conversations - none of the BS that I used to get with a DOCTOR.

I am persuaded that the very best medical professionals are, above all, friends we can trust.

I know you are already beholdin' to big pharma, so will take that for what it is worth

We could learn a lot from the Chinese regarding natural treatments, but you people would rather take a pill

I was taking Alleve for arthritis in my right hand. Worked great. My Doc said to stop taking it as I only have one kidney (donated one to my late brother) and it can apparently also affect the kidneys. He prescribed Meloxicam 15 mg. This has worked pretty well for me.
