A) "Attack and Interceptor Jets: the World's Greatest Aircraft" by Michael Sharpe. Pocket-sized reference that covers most military jets from the ME-262 to the F-22 Raptor, including jet trainers, transports, and bombers. Each type has a full-color plate of a serving aircraft, plus a short development and service history of the plane, and all its specs, two pages per each type of plane. B) "Biplanes, Triplanes, and Seaplanes: 300 of the World's Greatest Aircraft" by Michael Sharpe. All 300 planes shown in full color with brief history and full specs including dimensions, performance, and engines. Covers from pre-WWI to post-WWII, military and civil types (many were both!). C) "War Planes of the Second World War: Bombers and Recon Aircraft, Vol 8" by William Green. The volume of this excellent series that covers the little known French WWII bombers and recon planes (some excellent and used by both the Allies and the Axis; some super duds!) and the German Arado, Blohm und Voss, and Dornier bombers and recon planes, which include everything from the odd but effective BV-141 spotter plane to the AR-234 "Blitz" four engine bomber which was the inspiration for the US B-45. Excellent technical articles on each plane. w/full specs, details of development/modifications and service in WWII, plus export use. HB pocket sized 159 pp. exc. reading cond. but torn dust jacket. D) "Rand McNally Color Illustrated Guide to WWII Airplanes, Vol. 2" by Enzo Angellucci. This volume of the series covers aircraft used in WWII originating in the US, Japan, USSR, and Australia, and those also used by New Zealand, South Africa, China, and Brazil (mainly US, British, and Russian types). 135 types covered w/158 color plates plus many b/w photos. Also includes chapters on national insignia, camo, engines, and a timeline of the major types used by year of introduction. Quality PB 320 pp exc. reading cond. $5
E) "The Encyclopedia of Aircraft of WWII" ed. by Paul Eden. Large volume that covers all important WWII combat aircraft with separate chapters on early and later versions of each type (the early Allison-engined P-51 and A-36s, later Merlin-engined P-51s, for example, are in separate chapters). Aircraft by 41 different mfrs. in all combatant nations are covered. Softbound 9x12" format 512 pp. exc/new cond illus. w/MANY historic b/w and color photos, development histories, color plates of many types. $8 (very heavy to ship).
F) "Conquerers of the Air: The Evolution of Aircraft, 1903-1945" by Heiner Emde. Complete history of the evolution of aircraft from the dreams of the Renaissance to the earliest jets in WWII. Very complete history, including step-by-step descriptions of significant aircraft developments with technical details and many narratives of testing, adventures in record breaking, and pioneering commercial and military service, including combat in the two World Wars. Another Time Life volume of the same series that describes the for-hire pilots who brought combat aviation to the world's marginal and "proxy" wars in the 20th century.
