Against all odds, we are actually getting a quarterly bonus and a bonus for 2015 as a whole. Now I'm torn between picking up a new Ruger or a new long lens for my Canon camera.

Congrats on the bonus! To help you solve your other dilemma, please take note of the forum you're posting on. Soc. Sec. here, now. Don't even get the COL raise again. :(

Buy the Ruger and look harder through the camera . Maybe you can split the difference? Buy a sought-after accessory for one and see if you can find the long lens cheaper.

So you bought a commercial met slicer? Does this mean no camera lens? Great! We will have to view sub standard pictures of all the meat you smoke! :D :D

How about at least a picture of the slicer? What makes it commercial grade vs, home style?

Oh, and congrats on the bonus. I never had a job where I got a bonus.

The slicer...

It's all metal, with just the adjustment knobs being high density plastic, with metal internal parts. Home use slicers are a good bit plastic, with plastic gears. There are other things, like spring buffers at either end of the sliding tree to cushion the tray as it moves back and forth.

The new lens will come the end of the month when I get the 2015 year bonus. This bonus was just for 4th quarter 2015. It's not a huge bonus this year, thanks to copper being down. My largest year-end bonus was 3 years ago. It was about $18,000. This year is going to be $3,000 to $5,000.
