Bond

What I don't understand is that given Fleming's experiences in WWII - he was a liaison of some sort between the British Admiralty and Churchill's Special Operations Executive** - you'd think he would have picked up at least some knowledge of guns. He certainly picked up enough other tips and tricks of the clandestine trade that would influence his writing . . .

(** See, for example, Damien Lewis' book "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" about the exploits of the SOE. One of the senior SOE officers, Brigadier Colin McVean Gubbins, who served as SOE's Operations and Training Director, and with whom Fleming worked, was "better known to all as 'M.'" That was a job title that lived on in print . . . Lewis notes that SOE raiders were especially fond of the Thompson SMG and Colt .45 pistols, along with certain German and Italian arms that would be encountered behind the lines where SOE spent so much of their time.

So why didn't Fleming just give Bond a Colt 1911A1 and have done with it?)
Dosent showcase the arrogance that goes with such a Damn, I'm Good! fictional ubermensch who can do with a .25 what others need a .45 for.

Putting aside the .32 or .380 round debate a Walther PPK is one more hansom gun... the odd thing is Seanry must have had small hands because it always looked bigger than it should. Other than it not being around in the 60's I would choose the Sig P230 for him to carry.

I've said this too many times here... the sexiest semi-auto made. Just look at the curves on her!

In my dad's and my days of collecting WWII handguns, I always rolled up my lip at the Mauser HSc (it wasn't a Walther PPK or PP), in retrospect, we should have jumped on at least one, it was a racy looking handgun. In those days Luthi's in Greenville, SC had many, that was in the days when it was a hole in the wall pawn shop a block from the old train station.

Yes. I couldn't remember what book so I looked it up. Dr. No, according to this page.

That's where I looked. One source said Boothroyd had suggested to Fleming to use the S&W.
I thought this was a hoot,
  • Smith & Wesson Centennial Airweight for "long-range work". Bond decides to take this to Crab Key island rather than the PPK as there will be no time for close encounters.
  • Smith & Wesson .38. Bond finds this gun on Crab Key and uses it to kill three of Doctor No's men.

Y'all know if the type of handgun the various Bond's carried had really mattered at some point in one of the movies they would have had a scene where he explains why he got rid of the PPK... was tired of it scraping and cutting his hand when he shot someone.

Well, if Amazon - which purchased MGM, and the Bond franchise - has its way, Bond might not be carrying any kind of gun. Assuming the wokies allow Bond to live at all . . .

Fox News reported Saturday that "the next installment in the 'James Bond' franchise is still in development limbo due to a rift between the series' main producer and its new owners, Amazon." It seems that "longtime Bond producer Barbara Broccoli and Amazon — which bought MGM studios in 2021 — are in an 'ugly stalemate' over decisions about the future of the franchise." If you suspect that this "ugly stalemate" has to be over whether this dashing, upper-crust, womanizing agent for the forces of good is going to be turned into a woke shadow of his former self, you're right on the money.

During a recent meeting to discuss Bond's fate, one Amazon executive laid it on the line, saying: "I have to be honest, I don't think James Bond is a hero." Of course. How could he be? Think about all the ways in which Bond is not a hero from the standpoint of a grim, humorless, doctrinaire leftist.

Amazon wants Bond to battle villains based on real-life people that the left hates and fears. That's right: if woke executives get their way, 007 will be fighting Elon Musk and, inevitably, Bad Orange Man. That's what totalitarians do: they politicize everything and are intent on not allowing James Bond to escape their grasp.

The woke Amazon execs are actually the ultimate Bond villain. They don't expect Mr. Bond to make money. Like Auric Goldfinger, they expect him to die. If they prevail, and the world has to bid Bond adieu, we can at least take solace in the fact that he lasted this long.

Having seen what they did to Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" and Tolkien's works, I shudder to think of what an Amazoned James Bond would look like.

For a discreet Tuxedo Gun the PPK was pretty spot on. Especially equipped for a silencer. My biggest issues were when he would be making ridiculous long range shots with it. The mechanical accuracy just wasn't there especially with the available ammo!!!

Has anyone else noticed that in the movie "Dr. No" when Bond dispatches Professor Dent in Lilly's bedroom with a silenced pistol it is NOT the Walther PPK but an FN 1922?

You have to pay close attention to the scene. Bond removes the silencer and you clearly see the pistol.

I would think the dimunitive and primitive sights would induce far more error than any vagaries in the ammo.

Let's face it, ever since Moore started playing Bond they have slowly reduced his womanizing and drinking. He no longer smokes his specialty cigarettes.

With no disrespect to Dame Dench how M went from a crust old Admiral to a woman show how woke they became quite early on.

At least Q becoming Q"Ute" was explained satisfactorily. Q was old when Bond began and having his granddaughter become the new Q kept things in the family

Bond is sadly a mere shadow of the cold blooded killer he originally was. Where as his preferred solution to all problems was a bullet from if PPK he now must come up with politically correct and environmentally sound solutions.

I should have never sold my P230
