the last dog I had was a beautiful black and tan German shepherd, named Lobo. It was Christams eve and we were opening presents. I looked up and Lobo came walking into the room with a sack over his head. One of the girls hugged him and removed the sack, cooing "Poor Lobo!" and petting him. After a bit, we got back to presents and a little quieter. As it got real qjuiet, Lobo came into the room, another sack over his head!

Lol!

The Positive response he received from the first sack, made him do it again! He must have been a real character.

Reminds me of a funny Christmas dog story.

We had a beautiful mix, mother was a pure bred Britney, Dad was a mutt. We had the pick of the litter one of them looked like a bear cub, all black and twice the size of the others.

The one we picked ended up looking like a miniature Golden retriever. Perfect medium size dog. Great temperament, an absolute joy.

Back to the Christmas story. My sister and I were sitting on the floor opening presents, The dog was between us. My sister tied a ribbon/ bow on her collar.

About an hour later we went to the kitchen to have lunch. We hear the dog crying from the living room. We went to check on her and she was sitting by the tree and wouldn't move. I untied the ribbon and she took off. She thought she was tied to the Christmas tree!

Back in the 80s I had a black lab. One day I was walking to work and an LEO friend pulled to the curb and said look what I’ve got arrested in the back. These patrol units had a cage behind the front seats. I looked in the back seat and there was a beautiful black lab about maybe a year old. He had heard me talking about if I got another dog. It would be something like a lab. He told me the dog had been arrested for vagrancy & didn’t have any collar, but she acted like she had been with a family because he had some training. My friend took the dog to the pound, which was right behind the police station and he said he would call me if no one claimed her and when she was ready to be released. Her sentencing was for seven days. I paid her fine and picked her up and took her home to be introduced to our 12-year-old son and nine-year-old daughter. We kept trying to come up with a name for her and everything they called. She basically ignored. That whole list of names like Blackie Rover and Ruger and whatever else they could think of. After about 20 minutes of this, I finally said “this dog is a real turkey”. At that, she jumped up and ran over to me and sat wagging her tail. From that time onl that was her name, Turkey.

Some dog names come easy.

I have a very vague memory of my Dad carrying a cardboard box into the house and showing the contents to my sister. She shouted Pepsi! And lifted a golden retriever puppy out of it. She was about 5 so I was 2.

Pepsi was the best dog ever. I used to feel sorry for Timmy because Pepsi was better than Lassie in every way.

A few years later my cousin who had a severe cleft pallet named his new dog Augie!

A few years later he mentioned his dog didn’t have a name. Turns out he was saying doggy.

Looking back by calling the dog Augie we were actually making fun of his speech without realizing it. Not that he cared.

Was had a tortoise shell cat, Peanut.
Someone's birthday, I can't remember who's the recipient was opening gifts, one of which was in a gift bag. Thy type with the plastic cord handles.
Peanut came to investigate what was in the now empty bag and stuck her head through the handle to look inside.
Just then a noise started he a she jumped, with the bag stuck around her neck. The bag rustled and that scared her worse. She took off running. Over the coffee table, across the room, up the stairs, down the hall, turned around back down the hall and stairs, back across the room. Eyes like pie plates in sheer terror of what had herby the neck. She jumped in my lap as if to say "Save me Dad!"
I thought my wife would die from laughing.
Here's our now departed Peanut
I miss that cat and still choke up looking at this picture.
She was wandering around work as a stray and I took her home.
A guy that worked across the street threatened to kill her.

As I have stated before we lived in a small Ohio town of 4500. My Uncle bought a Boxer for his kids that grew into a wild crazy dog that could escape or get out from just about anything.
He did love small kids. One day he escaped and went down the street to play with a little neighbor kid. All was fine until he started dragging the kid to his house for his own playmate.
Kids irate Mom calls police, police get dog and take it to jail until uncle gets home, dog escapes jail, next day headlines in local paper Culver's/uncle Attack Dog breaks out of jail. Only in a small town in the 50s ;) ;););)
