After a late night enjoying a family "wienie roast" to celebrate the 4th, I had a 5AM wake up so I could do my morning chores and be ready to hit the road by 7AM. We headed west to pick up a grain head to upgrade our combine to cut some cereal rye for use to plant cover crop after soybean harvest. Even considering the return trip was at 40MPH we made the 170 mile round trip and home before 1PM. Quick sammich and out to make a few adjustments and hook the head up to the combine. While Son and Grandson worked on that, I hit the hayfield to rake up some windrows for baling. I finished my job at the same time they did so we convoyed 5 miles to the rye field where Son ran the combine while Grandson and I hooked up the grain cart to hold the harvested rye seed. Backed the grain cart in the barn and moved the combine back home to put it away. I took care of evening chores while Son raked the last of the hay and knocked off for the day @ 8PM.
I'm hoping for a light dew tonight so I can get started baling before noon tomorrow. If things go well, I should get finished by 4 or 5PM and that job is finished except for some waterways we want to bale for mulch. Oh, almost forgot: sometime tomorrow the commercial sprayer is scheduled to show up at one of our custom farmed locations so I may have to spend some time giving them guidance on where the problem areas are.
Rain is forecast for Wednesday so need to have all these ducks lined up by then.

Yes sir ..a good day start'in at 0545 ..I changed gear case oil in my bush hog ...bush hogged and sprayed field borders and sprayed a couple wet now dry spots in my beans ...finally got time to cut up some wind laid trees around my get to my field roads and pushed them up with the frontend loader ...got up my 10AC electric anti deer fence around my beans (small patch where deer never see a person except planting, spraying and cutting ..no fence no beans!)

Bear ...good old frontend loader again ...push in the tee post in no time ..two other things made it really fast ..used to use wire but tried last year top run 1/2" ribbon wire so switched to ribbon all the way ...used a tee post puller to pull last years tee posts and left the insulators in place ...zip zip using our Rhino SxS spooled the ribbon out at a very fast pace
Yes today was a very good day
Glad you had a good one too!

Sounds like a good productive day …… don’t we wish they all went that smooth!

The "ribbon wire" does handle easier than steel wire and the deer are able to see it better. We build and pull up to 2 MILES of temporary electric fence each year so any of those time/effort saving shortcuts are worthwhile. Most of our support posts are 1/2" re-bar 4' long with T-posts only where needed. I welded up a miniature driver for the re-bar posts so even Granddaughter can set them.

Y’all make me tired just readin about it! Of course y’all have the equipment to make it happen. I try to keep six acres mowed, blackberries picked, and cool off in between activities! Glad y’all can “get er done”!

Ah, the beauty of true and total retirement..... 7:30 AM is an early wake-up for me.

Then I hit the bathroom and look in the mirror; after I recover from that initial shock I say out-loud:

"Today, you don't have to do a (expetive) thing."

The rest of the day sorta follows that lead............

Another 'big one' yesterday. I had quite a bit of hay that didn't get baled Monday but we had a LOT of dew so didn't get started until noon. Plenty of other stuff to get finished before the predicted rain hits so busy with little stuff all morning. Son showed up about noon and we started the baler right after lunch. Decided we might run out of 'net wrap' for the baler so had to send someone past town to get another roll(turned out we didn't need it but also didn't have to sit for an hour while someone went back to town). Had a bit of trouble with the net wrap system on the baler as the roll got down to nearly gone and I ended up nicking my thumb while clearing a birds nest. That wasn't advantageous to the progress but I decided it didn't require an ER visit and was able to finish baling. Had to move the grain cart to make room for the baler in the shed which was 20 miles of tractor road time. Son had to do some spot spraying and run his drone over one field that had some concerning weed issues so he did that while I was moving equipment. Looks like we may have time to get in a bit of spraying before the weather hits today. When the rain does arrive, I still have several hours of video training to prepare for my next work project and a LOT of questions to answer for my employees.
Age wise 70 is the "new" 50, correct??? DON'T BELIEVE THAT FOR A SECOND!!!!!
