I am asking this for a friend after I looked online and told him he may have messed up his barrel. I always use regular Hoppe's but he uses the copper solvent Bench Rest made by Hoppe's. He says he puts it in his barrel after shooting in the afternoon and waits till the next afternoon to remove it. I looked online and told him that copper solvent will damage his barrel after 30 minutes and now he is worried. He only uses the Hoppe's Bench Rest, so has he possibly messed up his barrel? I will let him know y'alls answers, thanks.

The bore should be fine.

This is what I found on Brownell's website for Hoppes Bench Rest 9 Copper Gun Bore Cleaner:

"Specially developed to meet the needs of benchrest competition. Contains no abrasives. Dissolves heavy copper deposits, carbon buildup, lead and plastic fouling safely, by chemical action. Powerful, safe, fast, cleans even heavy copper fouling overnight. Use with nylon or stainless brushes only."

Edit: Strange: I can no longer find it on Brownell's, but Amazon and others say this:

"With this powerful gun bore cleaner, copper fouling can be cleaned from the bore overnight, instead of the standard 3 to 4 days it takes with other makes. Safe, effective and contains no abrasives. Also great for removing powder, lead and plastic from all firearms."
