Another good one. Your depth of field is always perfect. Looks like a foot or so on each side of the subject.
Tell us how you go about finding the wildlife that you photo. Do you drive ,walk, sneak, or dress up in a tree suit :D How long does it take you to find the subject. Lets hear your story.

It could be Acme, Ajax, or Ace. The Coyote used all three brands :lol: :lol: :lol:

Jim: Because I've had a stroke recently I cannot hold the camera with two hands [as you might imagine a canon 5D w/400mm lens is quite heavy] so I shoot off a bean bag on the car door. That means every subject needs to be on the left side of the rig! Iam blessed by having the run or a 140 section ranch [clients of mine]. Hunting is very limited. Cowboys and ranch hands shoot game to eat, not trophies. The game and animals on this place are used to my car and me and basically have no fear. There are other ranches that allow the same access. Ihave practiced veterinary medecine here in this same building 40 years the eleventh of november this year. I respect the property and the animals and have a blast cruising the big ranches in the area with my camera, thanks for asking. Dr.C :)

!El Sr. Paisano! Great pic of a great bird! Last one I saw had about 5" of the tail of a whiptail lizard hangin' out of his beak! (My wife almost shot one when we were quail hunting in AZ once...they actually can FLY!).

My neighbor and best friend, Paul Kramer was an A&M Vet in the Houston area from early the 50s until he died of cancer in 1995 at 67. At one time he was the President of the Vet Association (don't know the exact name)
He started out with large animals then switched to small.

They look like Pheasants except for the color and obviously longer beak! Pheasants can really scoot too...

As doccash said, they are real. They really look neat when they run. They lower their heads with that big beak pointed straight out so from beak to the end of the long tail, it's one straight line. Talk about stream lined... :wink:

Carnivorous member of the cuckoo family....try saying "carnivorous cuckoo" eight times; folks will think you ARE one!

They DO have a certain intent look when they are running, especially if they are running AFTER something! Nobody calls Sr. Paisano a "raptor," but what else are they? (If I were that GEICO Gecko, I'd watch out here in the West!). Glad they aren't any bigger than they are....if dinosaurs were ANYTHING like a roadrunner, they must have been seriously formidable!

Great pic, my present background pic on my laptop. Being an old New Mexican, I have a love for roadrunners. I was surprised to see one in eastern Arkansas several years ago. Saw him more than once so verified that's what he was. I didn't know they got that far east.
