Single-Sixer
A good while back I got to talking with one of my customers (Bill) and he told me after he retired he started working with pottery. He said he pretty much just did it for friends and family but when it became too much like work he gave it up. I told him my wife had been wanting a water crock to keep on the counter that we could dip water out of. Something that would hold a gallon or two of water. He said he may be able to make something for us. Most potters charge big money for something like this and most (if not all) mass produced water crocks are made overseas.
A couple of months ago Bill placed an order for a GS holster and since nothing was set in stone on the crock, I had pretty much forgotten about it. A few weeks after his order, he sent pictures of a crock in the making. My wife and I were surprised and tickled to death at the same time. Bill told us that he was not going to charge us for the crock that it was a gift. He said it was the first one he had done in several years. I told him that I wanted to pay him either in money or trade and he finally agreed to let Kay (my wife) carve something on his holster and add a mag carrier as well. I also added another holster to the trade because I felt we were getting the better end of the deal. We had gotten a quote on a water crock from a potter several years ago and it wasn't cheap.
Below are some pictures of the leather and the water crock we traded for. I make the gear but Kay does all the carving and tooling. My wife and I are very pleased with the crock and have been using it since we received it earlier this week. Bill is one of the nicest fellers you could ever talk to and he makes some beautiful pottery.
The pictures are not the best because I had to take them on the porch. It's been raining the last few days here.
